Whenever you picture epic scenes from the story - like Paul's first riding of a Worm, the betrayal of Paul's father, or Muad d'ib's walking out of the great desert - you have to mentally insert the Old Spice whistle jingle.

...and of course all those hot Bene Gesserit chicks would have to groupie-up on anyone who uses the 'Spice.

Yeah, the non-original authors have pushed the original (great) ideas into that unfortunate commercial space where the market inadvertently ends up supporting/encouraging them - at least until we find out that they should be beaten for their sins of mediocrity. But, let's face it, any effort only sullies the unachievable art/perfection of the original trilogy. David Lynch still breathes - even though he is solely responsible for my choosing against reading the trilogy until about 10 yrs ago, when I found out how badly he had missed the mark. I still have a morbid fascination for his movie, because even though it is but a shadow, some of the imagery is still spot on - but that may be a chicken-egg issue of mine because I saw the Lynch movie before I read the books...
