Yeah, it sucks when they scream. But you, as the mom, know that it's just a momentary pinprick, and that most of the screaming is due to the fear, right? So if you go in all confident and business-like (not "This won't hurt a bit" because that's a dirty tricksy lie, preciousss, but "It only hurts for a second and then it's over and you get a sticker!"), I think it helps them. One of my kids refused to pee in a bottle when she was little. Absolutely flat-out refused. Screamed, hid under the exam table, the whole works. I can't tell you how much fun *that* was.
