I feel lazy and disgruntled today. My house is a mess, I've still got more laundry to do and today is my son's well-baby visit. He'll be getting shots. I HATE the shots. Seeing him scream in pain is the worst kind of torture. Ever.

Yeah, it sucks when they scream. But you, as the mom, know that it's just a momentary pinprick, and that most of the screaming is due to the fear, right? So if you go in all confident and business-like (not "This won't hurt a bit" because that's a dirty tricksy lie, preciousss, but "It only hurts for a second and then it's over and you get a sticker!"), I think it helps them. That's my theory anyhow.

One of my kids refused to pee in a bottle when she was little. Absolutely flat-out refused. Screamed, hid under the exam table, the whole works. I can't tell you how much fun *that* was.

Careful, MsMary. The last time I was in your situation I tried to eat something right away and ended up taking a bite out of my lip. (At least the anesthetic stopped it from hurting. ) I'm sure you're more coordinated than I am ('cause it's not hard to be ), but just a warning.......

LOL Well, it would be easier if I could communicate with my son (he's 15 months). I should say the shots aren't that bad, it's drawing blood from the finger that got me. Here's my little story (nightmare):

I don't know the normal process, but I guess I got a bad nurse or something. Last time she stuck his finger twice because the first one didn't go deep enough. Then she took 10 minutes getting the blood into the vials. By the end, my son was flailing around in my lap, screaming bloody murder and I was about ready to cry and deck the nurse at the same time.

Then, if things weren't bad enough the bleeding wouldn't stop. So she spent an extra 10 minutes putting pressure on his finger to get the bleeding to stop (which it didn't). She wrapped his finger in some gauze, which he promptly tried to eat, which caused more bleeding. By the time we got home the gauze was soaked with blood.

It was the worst doctor's visit ever.

Wow. I'll defer to our resident nurses on the Watch, but that does sound like the nurse was a teensy bit incompetent...

I'm only drinking a glass of cold water. Dangit, I can't even enjoy a cup of coffee when my mouth is numb.

JazFusion, that sounds like a blood draw for a lead test and/or anemia. You shouldn't need to worry about that at a 15 month check, especially if they got it at 12 months. But you're right, 10 minutes is a long time to draw that test. Usually it's less than a minute, almost always less than two. Maybe you did get a bad nurse/lab tech. Ugh.

It was for a lead test. I guess the silver lining in that was it came back normal. Although if that ever happens again, I probably will deck someone.

I'm having a nice, relaxed day. I'm taking a break from cleaning, but I need to get back to it. When I get my second load of laundry in I'll need to load up the car with all the "to give away" stuff and take it to one of the local charity thrift stores. The fun factor is overwhelming. But when I am done I'm going to reward myself with a coffee from Starbucks. As luck would have it, I live about 2 blocks from the newest location in town.

Sorry, Caggie! Drink chicken soup. . . when I have a desk, I always keep a box of "cup of soup" chicken noodle there. Whenever I start feeing sick I drink some. And if you can make it to a drugstore, buy some of Zicam. I've had fabulous results with it! Get better soon!

Haha. I love that. Someone threw up in the hallway at the theater the other day, and then my friend Costa almost threw up. Glad I didn't have to clean it up. Puke on carpet SUCKS>

I feel at peace. I had a very restful and productive day. I just cooked a fantastic stir-fry and ate dinner. Now I'm watching Alton Brown make sushi. When that's done it's time for for an episode of Lost. I love that I can watch them on my computer.
