I actually enjoyed Invisible War too, I thought it stands quite well on its own. It's not supposed to have the depth or scale of Deus Ex but I thought the nano powers were a lot of fun. It was one of the first shooters I can recall where you could really tailor the character to your own style.

Y'know, I really wanted to love Thief as that is the sort of thing I would love to do playing pen and paper role playing games. I don't know if it was the load times, the frequent deaths and the occasional falling into nothingness, or if it is just the concept of sneaking in videogames I didn't like, but I found it mostly to be an exercise in frustration for me. It's probably just sneaking in videogames as those are always the moments in others that I just want to go away. But I did really like games like No One Lives Forever where you could sneak or go in with guns a-blazing (Deus Ex too, for that matter). I don't mind occasionally sneaking (only to usually snap their heads back with a snipe after all is clear), but I get frustrated with it after a while. And in Thief, there just wasn't a way to play the game with crossbow a-blazin'.

It's not for everyone, I'll definitely admit that. They called the game Thief, not fighter :) It's really just about sneaking around and stealing stuff (with a great story!) You just need to be the person for whom snuffing out a candle, and hiding in the shadows while a guard walks right past you (and you pick his pocket while he passes) is exciting. It isn't for everyone. I do, but a lot of people don't see the point.

It's a video game I need to fight stuff!

Well, like I said, I love the concept, and in D&D and other games of that ilk, this is the character I play. It surprised me that I didn't enjoy it. I think it had something to do with how long it took to actually play at the time, but I've tried it since on a sooped up computer and still hated it. I guess it just infuriates me to get spotted by the guard and then having to load it again. Same thing irritated me with a couple of the Tomb Raider games where there were horrendously difficult jumps and it was a series of loading and waiting only to get a second or two to jump and die.
I can't say I fall into the camp of It's a videogame, I need to fight stuff. Several of my favorite videogames are non-fighting ones.

Hrm, You know that if a guard sees you, it's not really that bad, they get tired and stop looking pretty quick. (and Garret can run pretty damn fast) as soon as they actually lose sight of you it gets easier and easier to slip into a nice hiding place. And, you can always throw a flash bomb and blind em. (In the first two you can even blackjack em when they're blind) The AI is a hell of a lot deeper than a lot of modern games.
