I picked up a portable compressor from Wal*Mart that plugs into the cigarette lighter in my truck. I think it cost all of about $10 or so, and it works great.MsMary wrote:I love bicycling, but my bicycle tires lose air in the hot garage quickly. I have a little compact pump to keep in the dirt bag, but it's no good for anything except emergencies as it just can't create enough pressure. I bought a floor pump from wiggle.com in the end, now pumping up bike tyres is a snap and I use it to top up the car's too. That's a pretty good workout in itself!

My weight "gain" appears to have been a temporary fluctuation.
I ate a chocolate-covered pretzel to celebrate (and because it's my birthday).

Let's be clear about this. It was not a small chocolate-covered pretzel. It was one of those big, crunchy pretzels, dipped in chocolate, and topped with sprinkles.
It came from a fancy chocolate shop - my next door neighbor got a boat-size basket of chocolate for Valentine's Day, which was dropped at my house cause she wasn't home. She gave me a small subset of the chocolate as a thank you present.
But, hey, it was my birthday.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

I have lost 12 lbs in the past 5 weeks. I'm rather proud of myself. Although my wife has lost 17 in the same time period.

Y'know, this is the tactic I used. I lost 30 pounds on DDR. Now that I'm a few years older, and much better at DDR, my knees are starting to go. I'm bored by the Light Mode and generally hang about in the Standard mode, but my knees hurt from it. I can do some hards, but not a heap of them. Oh, and I use 2 pads instead of just one. Much more fun that way.
So once the knee problem started, I bought Kinetic that uses the Eye Toy. It's pretty good for the most part, if you can get enough light into the Eye Toy to make it work properly. If not, it is a pain in the butt. But I must admit it was the right speed for me, and I did stick to my routine. For those of you who don't know about Kinetic, it is an exercise game that you interact with things on the screen with your body. You flail around hitting or avoiding objects, and it is all geared toward fitness, like punching/kicking, slower tai chi moves and such, designed by Nike exercise people. It has a stretching section and warm up section, and for non-interactive there is upper body, lower body, abs workouts as well as a tai chi, yoga and meditation section. Pretty damn good and using this was the best I felt with any of these games. If only the Eye Toy worked better, it would be the perfect exercise machine for me, and like having a personal trainer.
Since then I have bought one more, and it is called Yourself Fitness, and it also is like having a personal trainer. It isn't bad, but there is no interactivity other than saying how you feel about a workout. It's basically a constantly changing exercise video that seems to constantly have new exercise segments, I guess the best way to describe. It basically sets up a routine for you each day you want to work out, and has little blocks of this, and then that, and so forth. It's generally pretty repetitive, but it's always nice to have a little variation here and there, and do stuff you've not tried before. It tries to keep it fresh. And you can plan it yourself instead of in Kinetic where the trainer chooses what day you are going to work out. I've noticed that Yourself Fitness is much harder on my body though, and where I could easily do over an hour of DDR, generally an hour of Kinetics, I pretty much die doing 30 minute workouts on this. I generally do 15 minute ones and feel pretty good afterwards, typically. There is a bit of a warm up, and stretching is only about a minute and not very good. The nice thing about this one is that you can encorporate certain exercise equipment items into the routine (I have hand weights and a stability ball thingy), and you tell it you have those items and it will set up exercises for those items as well. It also has recipes in there if you'd like. The biggest drag about this is the Physical Challenge. It is the way the game tracks progress, and I typically kill myself on them. It happens after 10 workouts, and I think it is too frequent, particularly if you are trying to do 15 minutes each day.
DDR is the most fun, Kinetic is the most my speed, and Yourself Fitness is probably best if you are already in shape. These are all for the PS2.
I hate exercising, so going to the gym in my own living room is right up my alley, and especially when I can compete against myself (like in Kinetic or DDR) I get the most out of it. I need a game to make me exercise, and look forward to seeing what exercise games will come along next. Which is why I want a Wii.
