Words of power in Torchwood

Post by native »

The Death character kept using the seven words of power in Torchwood last night. It was really weird because I knew I'd heard them before somewhere but couldn't quite place it.

Oops sorry. here's a bit if you're interested. Just thought it funny that something so obscure should invade British pop culture...

Duroc minas mil khabaal!

That's what Owen kept spouting.

The lines are taken from the Thomas Covenant books by Stephen Donaldson, if you were curious. Not sure why they didn't just make up some original gibberish...

What do they mean in that?

They're a powerful invocation of law and good, ironically enough.

They don't mean anything, really. It was a statement of power said to Lord Foul - like something Gandalf would say (I am a servant of the secret fire...)

In Torchwood, it was just a stupidly grating and pointless line...

oh come on! there were certantly worse points in the episode!
I thaught it was fine! very "beastish" very nice effect given by it, the fact its unorigional doesn't matter, (like torchwood has ever suffered from that,) and if you want to put down this quite frankly average-good episode I could show you far weaker points.

etc etc
