Grand Funk Railroad

Post by Endymion9 »

So for those around who remember them in the early 70s...what's your opinion of Mark Farner and gang. I think this band took the greatest fall in prestiege I've ever seen.

In 1970-72 you weren't cool if you didn't love them.

Somewhere around 73/74 you weren't cool if you did like them.

I love their albums
Live
Survival
Closer To Home
E Pluribus Funk

So are they dudes or punks in your book? <grin>

Closer to Home was a great album--the rumor mills about Farner's hair, his ego and Eric Clapton go forever.
fall far and well Pilots!

Mean mistreater, you make me cry,
You lay around, and watch me die.
Mean mistreater, can't you see I'm real?
Are you satisfied, with the way you feel?

I've tried hard to live without you, in so many ways.
I just can't help myself from thinking of you, for the rest of my days.
Heartache is at my door step, won't leave me alone.
I just can't get used to it, now that I'm on my own.

I know all about you, your childhood days,
Your mom and dad, your pretty face.
Mean mistreater, if you need me,
I'm needin' you to set me free.
you're more advanced than a cockroach,
have you ever tried explaining yourself
to one of them?

i've had this with actors before, on the set,
where they get upset about the [size of my]
trailer, and i'm always like...take my trailer,
cause... i'm from Kentucky
and that's not what we brag about.

They filled-in for a cancelled act in 1980 at Walt Disney World during "Grad-Nite".
(Un-scheduled and last minute substitution... how cool)

The only album I have in my collection is "Shine On",
the one with a 3-D cover and came with the 3-D glasses.

*wondering if Cheval was at the same "Grad Night" as my kid sister*

...damn...all we had at the '78 "Grad Night" at WDW was Bo Donaldson and the Heywoods...

I went for two years, once for me and the following year with my girlfriend.
GFR played there in 1980. (1st yr.)

"I'm Your Captain" still works for me, though I consider the outro to be way too long.

I'M YOUR CAPTAIN
(Written by Mark Farner)

Everybody
Listen to me
And return me, my ship
I'm your captain, I'm your captain
Though I'm feeling mighty sick
I've been lost now
Days uncounted
And it's months since
I've seen home
Can you hear me, can you hear me
Or am I all alone?
If you return me
To my home port
I will kiss you
Mother earth
Take me back now, take me back now
To the port, of my birth
Am I in my cabin dreaming
Or are you really scheming
To take my ship away from me
You'd better think about it
I just can't live without it
So please don't take my ship from me
Yeah, yeah, yeah
I can feel the hand of a stranger
And it tightening around my throat
Heaven help me, heaven help me,
Take this stranger, from my boat
I'm your captain, I'm your captain
Though I'm feeling mighty sick
Everybody, listen to me
And return me, my ship
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah
I'm your captain, yeah yeah yeah yeah

I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
I'm getting closer to my home
