I absolutely agree with you there, Despiser. Most people would indeed criticise it. I imagine the wars between LOTR fans and Wheel of Time fans, would be the same between LOTR and TCTC.

LOTR and WOT fans fight? what for? im almost done with the third book of the wheel of time, and i dont see any similarities between LOTR...and i saw one or two similiarities between wot and tctc, but that just because of a name..."kinslayer"...but...if you think about it logically, that would be a logical name for someone..you know...who killed his family and loved ones...sssooo...no big deal..

Sorry Despiser, I never made myself clear on what I was trying to say. What I meant was that fans of one fantasy series generally think that another popular series is not as good or they outright hate it (Star Trek vs Babylon 5 - that sort of thing). I imagine that some Wheel of Time fans attack LOTR or TCTC simply because it is 'competition'. I realise there are very few similarities. I don't mind WOT - i read up to book 8 years ago, but gave up when he showed no signs of ending the series soon (it was dragging for me).

ah, i see...

well, i dont really see fans of sci-fi/fantasy shows/books really fighting just because other shows/books are competition...i think its more if theyre the same kind of show/book that they are going to automatically see them as cheap rip-offs...which is what i thought of babylon 5...heheh..

but, some people see a series like LOTR, especially the ones who arent into fantasy in the first place, and then they see a series like TCTC, and theyd automatically see it as a cheap rip off,a ploy to cash in on the success of LOTR...alot without even knowing that a book series existed...

of course, theyd be able to find more similarities than just names *ahem*

I agree and yet look at how other films have made success because of the inital one. Was Aramageddon a rip off of Deep Impact? Or the other way around? Was Rob Roy a rip off of Braveheart?
There were TWO Joan of Arc movies one with Leelee Sobieski and the other with Milla (Leeloo) Jovovich.

But by the time that ANY TCTC movie gets made it'll be a few years after ROTK (can't wait, can't wait, can't wait!) and even (if I'm lucky) that the script I'm working on gets sold.

There were a number of people I talked to (mostly ex JOCKS that didn't even know there were such things as BOOKS to begin with) that weren't aware of the LOTR series. Now bookstores can't keep Tolkien on the shelves everytime a sequel gets put out. Mein gott! there's even games with LOTR themes... one of them is interesting.. RISK based on Middle Earth... hmmmm.

Perhaps TCTC will get popular but then maybe not. Never know until you try.

Hi, I'm new here, but I'll post my choices for actors. And since this is Never-never Land, it doesn't matter whether they are too young, or old, or even dead. We remember them in certain movies or certain times.

Thomas Covenant: Liam Neeson - ever seen Rob Roy? In that movie he looks just right for TC (needs a haircut, though....)

Linden Avery: Louise Fletcher as she looked as the nurse in One flew over the Cuckoo's Nest

Elena: How come everybody wants her to be blonde? And Lena, too? Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I remember, Stonedownors are dark haired. I suggest maybe Catherine Zeta Jones. Cate Blanchett with dark hair would do as well.

As many others, I've also associated the Bloodguard with something quite oriental. So the Jet Li's and Bruce Lee's I can go along with. Other suggestions are fine.

Fletcher affects me like fingernails on a blackboard. Laura Linney, too. New generation, same knife in the back.

We need someone for Linden who can grow on the viewer, not rasp deeper and deeper. How about Samantha Morton? She's a great actress, a chameleon through and through.

If I didn't think she'd chew the scenery, I'd suggest Meryl Streep. No, I'm thinking maybe someone like Linda Hamilton [if we could get the Terminator image out of our minds, or at least remember her the way she was in the original before she got a little too shell-shocked]. Or how about Maura Tierney?

Or we could always fall back on my favorite..... Charo. [sorry, can't ever resist infiltrating your minds with the image of Charo...I'll try harder next time

Sorry, I'm Charo-immune.

One of the things I like best about Linda Hamilton is her combination of vulnerability and toughness. That's what made me want her for Morn.

The way I see Linden, she is all or nothing. Totally vulnerable, or totally tough.

I think someone suggested Liam Neeson for TC - thats a good one!! Imagine if David Lynch directed though?

Yeah, danlo, I wrote it in Brody's other thread. Naomi would be fine, I like her a lot.

Catherine Zeta-Jones? She's extremely beautiful, but I think that's all.

What about Sean Penn for Covenant?
Or a younger Clint Eastwood.

I'm really not familiar enough with Daniel Day-Lewis or Sean Penn to comment. Eastwood is suitably grizzled, but I'm not convinced he has the acting skills to portray our Mr Deep-and-Tortured Covenant.
