I only go to Starbucks when my wife demands it... and I am getting better at convincing her that a convenience store super-mega-biggie gulp Diet Coke is what she really wants - it is thirst quenchier, and thrice as venti at 1/4 the cost... with 0 calories and equal or more caffeine. And at the end of it all, you get a stylish plastic mega tumbler!!!! Double Bonus!!!! :)

I only got to Starbucks when I am truly, truly craving a silky frappuccino. I simply can't make those taste as good when I'm at my home since my blender doesn't have the power it takes to really pulverize ice. Generally speaking, I only have a starbucks coffee when I go to Barnes and Noble, or when someone wants to meet me for coffee. :D

I find it irritating when starbucks workers get an attitude and act as though you need a private club membership--for which plebeians like you don't qualify--in order to buy a simple latte. It's okay though. . . I just heard this morning on NPR that the chain ins laying off 600 people. I hope it loses all the snotty ones and keeps the nice ones. :P
I knew they were in trouble when my hometown, which never had a Starbucks until about 8 years ago, now has two standalone stores within two blocks of each other. Market saturation.

Coffee addicts...nations of coffee addicts.

University Avenue, in Halifax has 6 Tim Horton's; 2 Second Cups; 1 Starbucks; and 1 Organic Fairtrade Coffee house....and its not that long of a street; you can walk it in less than fifteen minutes.

Really, there are only five Starbucks in Halifax, but there are over Forty Tim's.

I do not understand why people just don't buy No-Doze and snort it. It's so much quicker.

I do the same thing with my BC Powder for the same reason.

Does it really have as much to do with drinking coffee, or with hanging out somewhere and being firmly entrenched in yuppiedom?

U = Set of People who buy Coffee at Starbucks
A = Subset of U made up of the people who hang out at Starbucks.

A is much smaller than U in my experience.

We have 4 standalone Starbucks in my town, probably another 5 in supermarkets and B&N; Seatte's Best in Borders; Kaldi's standalone; Churchill's Coffee Estate; 3 Panera Bread Co; Mud House; Mud Lounge (coffee and drinks), Cassil's Coffee, Village Coffee Co, Sunrise Espresso, Hot Shots, Nu Brew, and several more that are in the hospitals (Mercy Mocha being the one in my worklpace).

This is all for a city with an official population of 150,797. Granted, a lot of people commute in from the suburbs, but still! You can't swing a cat without hitting a coffee shop (and a church of some sort). :)

I think the act of paging back and forth trying to figure out what this monkey business has to do with weight loss is helping me to lose weight - or at least build muscle mass in my mousing finger.

I build muscle mass in my mousing finger through a physically identical process, though mostly unrelated.

I was really pissed I couldn't tell at first glance, though.

They've been running ads here -- the tall skinny latte supposedly has just 90 calories. That assumes you can settle for a tall, of course.... I'm personally just relieved that I now know the Starbucks nickname for "tall, skim latte with sugar-free syrup."
It's "nonfat" - not skim. ;)

At least, that's what all the Starbucks workers I've encountered call it.

And, yeah, a skinny latte is what I had, but I had a grande, which has 130 calories. Plus a breakfast food thing that had 70% of my daily requirement of fat. :P

Since my friend and I sat there all morning working on a project, I decide to get a "nonfat" chai latte for the ride home, not realizing how sweet (or calorie-laden, in spite of the skim milk) it would be. I won't make that mistake again.

Drinking coffee is much more enjoyable. I love a good cup of coffee.

I actually very rarely go to Starbucks. I only went yesterday cause my friend had a gift card she wanted to use. I find Starbucks coffee bitter and burnt tasting. But it's fine if you sweeten it up.

When I drank coffee, I did it for one reason, and one reason only: Other people where drinking it.

When I want to be caffienated, I take NoDoze. When I desperately want to be caffeinated, I grind it up and snort it. I do that with BC Powder when I have really bad headaches, since all the chemicals are water soluble. It's a nearly instantaneous cure for most headaches I have. Of course, snorting the stuff also hurts like hell, which is why I don't do it unless it's better than what I'm currently experiencing.

Caffeine is a psychoactive drug, and I take it for its effects. Caffeine Intoxication is much fun.

I like caffeine. I prefer to imbibe mine in a cup of coffee or tea.
