"Most of the luxuries, and many of the so-called comforts of life, are not only indispensable, but positive hindrances to the elevation of mankind. Cultivate poverty like a garden herb, like sage. Do not trouble yourself much to get new things, whether clothes or friends. Turn the old; return to them. Things do not change; we change. The very simplicity and nakedness of man's life in the primitive ages imply this advantage, at least, that they left him still but a sojourner in nature. To be awake is to be alive. Time is but the stream I go a-fishing in. Every man is a builder of a temple, called his body, to the god he worships, after a style purely his own, nor can he get off by hammering marble instead. We are all sculptors and painters, and our material is our own flesh and blood and bones. Any nobleness begins at once to refine a man's features, any meanness or sensuality to imbrute them. Rather than love, than money, than fame, give me truth."
-Henry David Thoreau, Walden, 1854
this is where i live.

Dammit Esmer...you weren't around last night to give me your blessing before today's med-surg test, i have a bad feeling about how this test went.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil knows you're dead.

"Honestly; by the end of the Chronicles Lord Foul isn't going to be the Despiser anymore (we all knew he had to come to an end), however I find it vexing that the only reason is because he feels unworthy of the title and resigns to let Linden take his badge, Illearth Stone, and the keys to Linden's Creche."-Revan

Menolly, I had a neighbor come ask to borrow my stockpot a few months back (I went to university with her). Anyhow, I asked her what she was making, and she told me that she was going to make lasagna. I explained how you don't have to boil the noodles, and she just looked at me and told me that she didn't want to try it. So I lent her the stockpot. *shrugs* People are strange.
Well, kudos to you for doing your best to improve yourself. I hope that your efforts yield fruit, and that you have the opportunity to mend those relationships as you desire.Menolly wrote:Thank you both, but you misunderstand.
Neither of you have IMd with me.
I am the same on Messenger as on the boards. But in such concentrated form, I tend to be very self-centered as well. And others get tired of that.
I've had a long conversation with a caring board member regarding it, and I acknowledge that everything she said to me is true. I am working on changing many of the things she suggested. But...it is too little too late for many I have on my Messenger list, as I no longer see them online to chat.
It...gets lonely.
As for never IMing with you. . . we'll have to remedy that sometime.
