I didn't want to get out of bed this morning. But now I am at work. I have an early class this morning, and once they are finished taking their exam I'm outta here for today. :D

I feel sleep-deprived. I think I've gotten 8 hours of solid sleep this week. I don't know what my problem is. I'm so sleepy that, while helping freshmen edit their essays, I thought some of them actually looked good.

I have a question for you super-smart/wise Watchers-

Let's say you live with your brother. It's cool because you two are pretty close. Now, you're trying to figure out how to move in with someone else- cause you kinda like that person and it's closer to school which is rad. Since your lease isn't up until '09, and you don't feel comfortable getting random stranger to room with your brother and you don't have $1300 to break lease the best compromise to this problem is to move the lease to another apartment community in the city that you're trying to move to. It'd be cool because four people would be splitting rent in a huge apartment. Your brother is into this idea. You are into this idea. Everything seems peachy.
Unfortunately, the person who you're trying to move in with isn't into this idea. He says that he doesn't want to live with your brother. When you ask why, he says it's because he thinks you two are attached at the hip. You don't agree, and when you ask him why he thinks this he doesn't respond.

Is this a fair thing to get upset about? I mean, it's not like he was particularly insulting or anything- he just doesn't understand being so close to a sibling, I suppose. But there's no other compromise with the living situation. So it's this or nothing.

Anyway, I got kinda pissed. Was that fair?

Wadds, I'm pretty close to my brother, and we were roommates for a few years, so I understand where you are coming from. I think it is fair for you to feel upset, but I can also understand where he is coming from. Some people have difficulty in understanding close sibling relationships.

I don't know that I have any advice for you, but I hope you work it out so that everyone is happy. |G

hmm...

Not that I know anything about "in-law" relations, having lived with Father-of-Love for five years...

How well does the person you want to move in with like your brother, outside of the fact that he is your brother? Do you see them as being cooperative room mates?

Is there a way to sub-divide the apartment? So you all have privacy other than in your bedrooms?

How much are either your brother, or the person you wish to live with, going to be around? Isn't one in the military?

Just throwing out things to consider...

I don't find it at all strange for people to live with their siblings. Hell, you had to at some point. I lived with my sister for a while, and although it turned out badly in the end, I see nothing wrong with it. Unless you sleep in the same bed, and...well, I should probably stop there.

I think the thing I'm upset about is that somehow living with my brother is a dealbreaker for him. Since it's really our only option, it seems silly to be so picky about it, expecially since from what I've seen, they really do seem to get along fine.

Oh well. Thanks guys :) I'll talk to him about it soon.

8O Cagliostro! You're very naughty! ;)

But yes, I think is becoming more and more common to live with family members. My roommate is leaving the country in a few weeks, and I'd be thrilled to share an apartment with a sibling--if for no other reason than to share bills. That, and you don't have to wonder why your shower poof is wet and smells weird (true story from a few years back when I shared an appartment with 2 guys). Unfortunately my sibling owns a house in another city. For the first time since living in dormitory at university, I'm going to be living on my own. *shrugs* I guess it will be a new adventure for me. :D

Part of me would love to live alone, if I could afford it. On the other hand, I think I'd get too bored. I'm really a people person and get sad when I'm not around them. I'm a pack animal.

Yeah. . . sometimes I get irritated that my roommate is there, but other times it's nice just to have another person around--even if we're not actually interacting. But. . . I'll still have my cat. :D

I have a friend whose family is from India, and in that culture, it is weird NOT to live with your family.

We Americans are the odds one out.

Sad... Because my country is being occupied and there is nothing I, or anyone could do that could change it... Sad...
Serbian epic poem:
"...Zeman došo, valja vojevati,
Za krst časni krvcu proljevati
Svako svoje sa pokaje stare..."
"...The time has come,
It's time to battle
To spill our blood for The Holy Cross,
To avenge our elders..."
