Yep, it's like a PC where you don't install games to the harddrive (except for the ones you download from Xbox Live, anyway). Of course, if my PC was in very real danger of cooking itself alive then I'm quite sure I'd open it up and monkey around with the components until it wasn't, but I guess we can't have everything!

Mass Effect . . . from my experience now of playing it . . . my god, it's incredible.

I play on the PS2, and I'm open to both fantasy and science fiction. Turn based is preferable. I loath MMORPG's, so anything that resembles them (FFXII) will be burned on sight.

Otherwise, next in line comes artwork and story. Most important to me.

Any ideas?
I'd highly recommend the first two Shadow Hearts games. They are often overlooked (I think because the first game was released a week before Final Fantasy X), but you should definitely check them out.

It is a sensational game, it has some technical glitches and the side quests get a bit repetitive, but that doesn't detract from the overall experience. I bought the downloadable content the other day, I need to play til I get back on the Normandy so I can access it.

persona 3 is a good $30 play for the good 'ole PS2 (be sure to pick up the FES version).

persona follows anime rpg elements as well as sim-like day to day schedules. as a high school student you will have to manage your time wisely to both socialize and better your person. meeting new people and forming bonds with them is key to sucess as they provide a well of strength (an exp boost) for you personas. a persona is described as a mirror of who you are; the phrase "I am thou... thou art I," is used often. in battle you summon your persona to perform whatever skill you selected from the menu. it is the main character {insert your name here} who has the unique ability to use more than one persona. the formula is actually reminicient of pokemon, you switch personas in the heat of battle to utilize the most effective skills; however this is much different from pokemon, and much more difficult.

I kept details of the story bare for a reason.

I have two complaints about this game though. at first the game takes you for a ride along the story, and not surrendering full control until for two ingame weeks (bout five minutes a day or so). the story is good, but not being in control is irksome.
secondly, I lose interest in fighting most of the time and simply wait till the next boss battle. although the challenge was fun at first, it created a great obstacle in the long run. although caught up, it seems I must grind more than I'd like to meet the next boss' standards.
