I'm used to being interviewer. Been a looong time since I was interviewee. NOT looking forward to it.
Good luck to you too. Yes, retail does suck your soul dry.

How terrible would that commute be, if you enjoyed working for that former boss when you got there? Would it be better than the short(er?) commute you have now to a job that if you accepted the demotion would *always* stick in your craw?
For the current job - in your opinion, are they getting rid of excess people, and will soon upswing again, or is this a sign of something more serious? Does the company think they can shrink themselves to sales success?
Yeah, that's a good point. As hellish as four hours a day on public transportation sounds, it'd be better.
Problem is, it's STILL retail. And I don't even know if she's hiring.
As to the second, the new CEO's radical new plan that we're all (well, all the survivors) are supposed to be embracing is: "Cut payroll and increase income!" Translation: "Your money is going in MY pocket!"
This after we took a big cut last year when the old CEO took an early retirement and a HUGE bonus.
That's what happens when you work for a big corporation. They don't see their employees as people.
The worst part of it for me is that I am the only one at my location to be affected. And to me that is not logical. We have two (two!) merchandising people who show up whenever they want to, and spend all day sitting around chatting. I did that job a few years back, and I did it solo. I'm not personally advocating firing one of them, but I can't help but think they are a more logical target. (Waaiiit.... trying to apply logic to upper management? I really must need more sleep.

)
What do I do? Payroll, miscellaneous HR, supervise security, manage cash handling, manage the office... I could go on. Fact is, that's a full-time job that will still need to be done.
And there is no one else there that knows how to do most of it. They're throwing away my years of experience and training, and will end up having to train someone to do it anyway.
My attitude right now is that I have a good resume and I probably don't need to limit myself to retail.
The problem is that I can't afford to be without a job for very long, and retail is easy to get into. I never intended to spend eight years in that job. No way. But once you're in and you're secure, it's harder to venture back out into the world of scary unknowns and freakin' interviewing. I want to do something that I will enjoy, something that
means something, something that pays better.... And I have no idea what that is.
Sooo... that's basically my answer there. Look for that something, and if I don't find it pretty quickly, go to Plan B.
Thanks for listening, and

to anyone else that needs 'em, looks like a lot of you are having a bad week too.
