Was the concept of the Oath conceived through the fear of desecration, or from Fouls subtle influences. Isnt it possible that Foul himself feared another Ritual of Desecration because of the weakened state that Kevins left him in . Consider that the ritual itself did not have the power required to threaten the Arch of time, and any reduction in Fouls power leaves him trapped that much longer.

Interesting question. Or it could be that Foul knew that in some way, the Oath would hamper the Lord's abilities to wield power against him.

BUT, I personally don't believe either of those. I think the Oath was an honest response of the people of the Land to what had happened with Kevin. They just didn't see that they were also handicapping themselves by restricting their passion.

I agree with Relayer and dlb, though. It's an interesting idea, but my thought was that the Oath was an understandable response to the desecration on the part of the new lords.

Additionally, my impression was that, at the time the new lords would have been formulating the Oath, that Foul was still too "reduced" to have attained that level of influence again.
