What fantasy/science fiction book are you reading RIGHT NOW?

A place for anything *not* Donaldson.

(Simmon's and Donaldson are my two favorite authors, so that should be inspiration enough).
I've read Hyperion and Endymion as well as Song of Kali by Simmons within the past year. I had never read Simmons before and I've enjoyed him immensely. I just picked up his "The Terror" and I'm loving it as well. If you haven't read this one, I'd highly recommend it.

Just finished Raymond E. Feist's Wrath of a Mad God. . .

Has Feist lost his touch? I get the feeling that -- like Eddings, Salvatore, Brooks, Weis and Hickman, etc -- Raymond E. Feist's best years might be behind him. Which is a shame if that's the case, because at his best Feist could compete with virtually any SFF authors out there.

I'm rereading the Song of Ice and Fire because I never read Feast when it came out. Now I've got them all in paperback, and starting book 3.

While waiting for the last two books to arrive in the mail, I started rereading Daughter of Regals and wasn't as impressed as I was the first time around decades ago.

I have a subscription to Weird Tales, and have received four issues but have only read half the first one, so now I've decided to catch up, and am reading through them all.

Just finished my first GRRM-recommended "punishment" for losing that NFL wager. . .

S. L. Farrell's A Magic of Twilight is a solid effort which should appeal to most fans of epic fantasy. In terms of style, for no reason that I can explain, I found Farrell's style similar to that of Robin Hobb, Tad Williams and, to a lesser extent, C. S. Friedman.

Dunno if it exactly fits in this forum, but ....

reading 'The Religion' by Tim Willocks after rave reviews by two friends whose taste I trust.

Or should I say used to trust!

*shrug* maybe they just overhyped it for me.

It's a fictional story based around the Siege of Malta in 1500 ish. Some good characters, but it's not grabbing me.

Just finished Ekaterina Sedia's enchanting The Secret History of Moscow. This will likely be one of the best fantasy reads of 2008. Has everything that made Gaiman's Neverwhere such a treat -- and more!

Im reading Laumers Bolo stories, I like that they do not have to be read in any order, and that there seems to be a limitless supply of unrelated story lines.

That's not even a question you should need to ask Vain!
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. John Stuart Mill
