Bravo, Blackhawk!

I'm guessing that for those who were disappointed by the Atlas of the Land, Blackhawk's map was the kind they had wanted to see.

Hey, this just occurred to me: wouldn't it be ultra-cool if somehow a Phoogle Map of the Land could be created? Imagine zooming down to Revelstone...Doom's Retreat...Gallows Howe...

thefirst - I think MM is talking about "The Atlas of the Land" by Karen Fonstad. Published in mid 80's, I think. I've never seen it myself, but from what I gather, the detail was lacking according to some folks....

Ah, thanks, no, haven't seen it, but now that it's been brought to my attention, I'll have to try. Thanks MR :D

I'll say this about the Altas of the Land: it was 100% better than anything I could ever come up with since I don't have that sort of talent. But, Mortice Root makes a true point: the detail was very lacking in some parts. I own a copy and I refer to it sometimes (when I am trying to imagine a scene and I can't see it in my head), but it's mostly just a crutch for those of us who have trouble imagining the scenery of the Land.

Exactly. It's not great by any means. But it's cool to have, just because it's the Land ;-)

Now if it had Blackhawk's art in it, that'd be something!

More props from me...it's beautiful, it would look better framed and hanging on my wall though. :D

So when are you gonna get it 100% finished and release some high quality prints for "Land Lovers" to buy from you? 8)

In case I gave the impression in my earlier post that I don't appreciate Karen Fonstad's Atlas of the Land, I just want to say emphatically that I do love the Atlas. Over the years I've made posts urging Chronicles fans to get the Atlas (if they could find a copy).

I suppose it's a shame that Fonstad did not have the budget and resources to create the kind of gorgeous "3D"-rendered maps that we take almost for granted today. But back then, we didn't have Photoshop.

:) I'm continuously changing little things...fine tuning it i guess, I have been experimenting with the printing, and so far the largest i have attempted printing is on Tabloid 11 x 17 inch paper and it does look pretty good on the wall...if im lucky i might be able to get it to print in movie poster size so i can frame one in this huge oak frame just waiting for it :D and if the quality is good i will most likely just release it to KW members for free so they can have it printed themselves if interested... Vain might be working on something also, he has a scale version of the map and may have something interesting in mind for it.

I got a reply from SRD today through his gradual interview about the map,

he said
Thank you for sharing this. The way things look to you is not the way things look to me--but that's not important. What I like best in your efforts is your ability to make these places look alive.

I'm glad he took time out of his writing to check it out, I know hes a busy guy, and whoever invented the Gradual Interview is a genius. all writers should have one.

That's really great, you know, my mother and I are contemplating doing a mural on one of the walls in her study, I've almost got her convinced to do a map of the Land.

It was nice of SRD to even reply, one assumes he is very busy at the moment! I gather he has a bit time and respect for the folks at KW, and rightly so, there is some great discussion about his work here, it's great to read (and veiw) some of the threads you guys create. 8)

And as for your map, I for one am looking forward to seeing the finished article. Excellent work IMO. :)

Thanks, i have some more work here

kevinswatch.ihugny.com/phpBB2/album_cat.php?cat_id=15

Vain posted 4 of the top 6 for me when i was ...hehe..i still am..a newbie to this site anyway.

I will probably be adding about 1-2 a month so check it now and then, since coming here it has re sparked an interest for me in scenes of the land. im working on santonins death and a view of landsdrop from the Sarangrave side. I have a list of scenes in my head that i want to try like the ice locked drommond and the quest setting out on foot, A view of seareach from the Drommond, and possibly the approach to the one tree and brinns battle with Ak Haru Kenaustin Aredenol, and also of course the battle between TC and Foul white gold vs Illearth stone. endless possibilities.
