I think we all agree that Linden's gift of spine-straightening at the end of WGW was the right thing to do: it was within her power, and it was her way of thanking the two Giants that to me had the greatest effect on her own emotional healing, since they were the model for the family life she never had.

While it may have caused some fleeting problems with getting into tight spaces, Pitchwife's Wiving skill itself was not affected, and he finally got a body tall enough to fit his great heart.
Our world needs more Giants.

I agree because Pitchwife was indeed a Giant more than his stature.
I don't think because he won't be able to fit into tight spaces anymore will be a burden on his wiving... he had to be lifted up to mend the broken spar of the Starfare's Gem and likewise he can still do other work as he did by mending the Galley and the side of the ship when the Spar was broken loose. I'm sure all dromonds had their own "Pitchwives", much like sailing ships of old had carpenters, which leads me to believe that (my favorite) Giant had his own name unrevealed and Pitchwife was a title like Glossamer Glowlimb's "First of The Search" ... so mystery here is and I cannot recall any mention of it what was Pitchwife's real name?

Wiving was mainly an open-space job anyway, it was just that he had a little more usefulness because the rarer small jobs were not as tricky for him.

Great point, Seafoam! I had never considered other drommonds and other pitchwives. Surely not all of them were short of stature!

There's no mention of pity in their love. Yes, as I quoted on the previous page:

He was myself as even Gossamer Glowlimn my love might desire me in her pity. For who would not have loved such a Giant, or desired him?

But that's not the same as loving him mainly for that pity. Pitchwife is one of the wisest characters ever created, and I think he knew the difference.

But even if he really did think she loved him because of that, she proves that she does not. The First is awesome!!:D

In reading this thread, I'm reminded of the scene from Monty Python's Life of Brian, where Brian encounters an ungrateful leper who was healed by Christ. The leper longs to be made lame so he can have something that is "beggable." Very funny scene.

Well figgure the average Long sword had a blade roughly 3 feet in length then add another 14-16 inches for the handle. That's proportial to HUMAN standards... By Giantish standards I'd wager the First's sword was anywhere from 6 to 8 feet in total length with at least two and half feet in handle alone. If I recall Giants averaged about 12 feet in height...thus double the normal average human (male) height of 6-1 (or two meters for the Aussies on this group) so she would have a proportionally sized sword.
The one she got from Briathanier <sic> Harbor or Gaddi's keep was one she found that suited her size.

I've always wondered what SRD meant by "Iron Beauty" the only (human) women I can even remotely compare that to would be Bridgett Neilsen (of Rocky IV fame) and mebbe Geena Davis.
