An unwilling sacrifice is worthless, but when one is willing to take one for the team thats a different story. The Elohim that was bound into the Colossus of the Fall did not abandon its duty, it simply faded along with the power of the forest, and the Forrestals, but at far as we no it had served its purpose. Now I never said that Findail failed, but he was certainly not willing, and there is a fundamental wrongness about forcing someone to do something against their will, the imposed silence of Thomas Covenant, and trying to manipulate Linden into the seisure of the ring, these were failures, and proof that the Elohim may know the nature of the Earth, but they dont know anything about people.
