Thanks Cail.
I'm ashamed to say that there are a couple of Heston films that I managed to miss and would now like to have a look at.
THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY
EL CID
THE GREATEST SHOW ON EARTH
TOUCH OF EVIL
of course I couldn't help but notice a few omissions.
Airport 75 was pretty cool when I was a kid.
I also remember watching THE PRIVATE WAR OF MAJOR BENSON one afternoon (I think I was still in high school) thought it was amusing.
And of course MIDWAY and GREY LADY DOWN.
I tend to hate these reminders that "All things change."
Really sad.

Like Montressor said, Charlton Heston had remarkable onscreen charisma. Just by showing up, he could dominate a scene.
I liked Heston's cameo in True Lies. Schwarzenegger and Heston - the movie's star and a movie legend - in the same room, at the same table. Heston as Arnie's boss was an inspired bit of casting. I wished Heston had more scenes in the movie.
I'd say Planet of the Apes and The Omega Man are my favorite Heston films. Their post-apocalyptic scenarios left a lasting impression on me.
The Ten Commandments...as a kid, I liked watching it when TV stations aired it around Easter, as was the tradition (and apparently continues to be). I didn't watch it with any kind of religious outlook, I just saw it as this incredibly grand spectacle - though its moral message was inescapable. (Well, duh!)

Gravitas. That's what the guy had in spades.
No other actor could have possibly made the endings of both Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green come out seriously. Sure, we make fun of them now, but at the time, both were chilling.
