Just had a thought...

Post by theDespiser »

i was reading the Doriendor Corishev thread, or hte first post, anyway, and thought about what it would be like if SRD did a book or series on those years, or when berek was still alive, and when Lord Foul betrayed the council, and all that...kinda like how Terry Brooks did First King of Shannara after the first two series' were done...

Absolutely. It'd be like the stories of Beleriand. That's what piques my interest about DC. I'd love to see a map of the old Kingdom, town and cities and roads and land layout of the Southern Kingdom. Maybe we'll see some of it alluded to in TC3 (the Tominator), although of course SRD has stated that it won't be a prequel.

you obviously have not read the book that i mentioned in my first post, about TERRY BROOKS, doing ONE BOOK, called THE FIRST KING OF SHANNARA....and if you havent, then maybe you dontknow what its about...so...no biggie..should have said something...

theres a series of books Terry Brooks wrote, called the Shannara series...3 in the first series, 4 in the second series...it follows the heirs to an Elven king that are called upon to save the world in which they live...they are guided in quests and missions and stuff like that by a Druid, Alanon...big mysterious dude...answers to a spirit of another Druid, the one who taught/raised him...ANYway, in the first book, the heirs to this power are sent on a quest for the Sword of SHannara, so they can defeat the...main evil dude...i forget what they called him...his name was Brona...ANYway...a series of adventures ensues, blah blah blah...you know the deal...each book in the series focuses on a different heir in the bloodline...

ok...thats what these books are about, basically...now...the main baddy...Brona..in the first one...story goes that hundreds of years before there was a Great War, or something...and he led the forces of evil against the good guys and whatnot, led by the Elf king to whom these heirs i mentioned are related...now obviously this war is mentioned, for it is the HISTORY of this world...you know, the usual explaining of the past to the innocent farm-folk who must now save the world...its all interwoven..

well, the First King of Shannara chronicles this War, and the last battle that defeated Brona, and shows what happened, and all that...

im not saying Dondaldson should write a silmirilion for the Land, im saying id like to see him write about Keven and Berek and their wars, or war(i havent re read these books in about a year and a half now) and everything else that put the Land in its current state...you follow?

I liked the original trilogy. The first book was tons of fun! Wishsong has one of my favorite moments anywhere - when Garet Jax gets to fulfill his life in the WAY TOO SHORT battle with the Jachyra. That's the page I had Brooks autograph. Allanon fighting the other one was awesome too.

Brin was as powerful as any character I've seen in the end, when she was the combination of the wishsong and the Ildatch. And when she bound the Grimpond and got information from it. Good scene.

And when the Mwellret heard Jair speak, and its head snapped up, and it made Brin sing for it. Very cool.

I wasn't too happy with Scions though. It didn't seem to me that anything significant happened. But my memory of it is very vague.

Running with the Demon didn't do it for me either, so I didn't read the next.

Just to add to the numbers of folks who did like books by Terry Brooks, I'll raise my hand and admit I liked the Shannarah trilogy and the First King. Scions just got too long, especially Walker Boh agonizing over and over...will he decide to become a druid...or not...or will he... or... Anyway, hey, not high-concept, deep-thinking books, but I had fun reading them.

Donaldson could certainly do a prequel kind of thing, but unless it's got some sort of unique psychological/philosophical idea behind it, I don't see him taking it up. I think he writes around concepts more than events...if that makes any sense... :)

I have a feeling SRD may just backtrack enough to the old days in the Final Chrons 2 satisfy every1.

I liked the Sword of Shannara and wanted 2 call my 1st born son Allanon (but later considered: who would want 2 be named after a teen alcohol rehab group? :D) didn't care 4 the rest. Same with Running--but u're lucky Fist-all the books after that 1 were byond horrible!
