I was listening to that on my commute home today.

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

Listening the Be Your Own Pet album again. I'm beginning to think the problem is that the songs on this album are longer, more sustained efforts, when what BYOP ar best at is the shorter, more energetic bursts like those on the first album. They do have a couple of good ones on this album, but there are others I just don't think they pull off very well.

Going through a bit of a Roger Waters phase at the moment - listening to The Wall (live in Berlin).

Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing
Is there no world for tomorrow, if we wait for today?

First hour of the two hour Hearts of Space Broadcast.

Program Title: WUSHU

Intro: This week we find inspiration in a very strange place for Hearts of Space: the world of martial arts film soundtracks.
How martial arts and contemplative music relate...requires a bit of explanation. Chinese words are made of shorter words put together. The normal translation of the Chinese word "wu" is fighting or military, while "shu" is art. Wushu, therefore, means "the art of fighting" or martial arts.

But there's a more philosophical translation, where "wu" is not "fighting" but "to stop fighting," and "shu" means "technique." So traditional Chinese wushu is about the technique of stopping or averting conflict. According to film director RONNY YU, "the better you are at wushu, the better peacemaker you are." Now there's a message that's relevant today.

So if the most skillful form of conflict leads to peace, then the most effective martial arts music should exhibit calm, balance and serenity. On this transmission of HEARTS of SPACE, a journey in the world of Far East contemplative sound called WUSHU.

Second hour of the Hearts of Space broadcast.
...this is more to my taste, although I did enjoy the past hour...

Program title: Kontinuum

Intro: If musical genres had birthdays, electronic music would now be over a hundred years old. The first playable instruments appeared around the 1920s, but things really got going in 1957 with the invention of the first vacuum tube synthesizer. You can still see this electronic fossil at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center at Columbia University in New York City.
Since then, electronic music has been on a roll, merging with the computer to breed new instruments and new sounds in a 50-year period of continuous evolution. On this transmission of Hearts of Space, another excursion in the electronic soundscape called KONTINUUM.

The famous "space-time continuum" in physics merges three-dimensional space and time into a single four-dimensional construct. In music, as in science, a continuum is something that retains a common character from beginning to end, and changes by regular degrees. The music on this program fits that definition.
