I plan on attending this free event. Does anyone else have interest in going?Vain wrote: Hi,
I got this in my email and was asked to post it here
Hi!
I wanted to spread the word about the fantasy author Stephen R Donaldson coming to the "Books in Bloom Literary Festival" in Eureka Springs, Arkansas this year.
The event is on Sunday, May 4 from 12 - noon at the historic Crescent Hotel. He is scheduled to give a talk entitled Why I Write Fantasy, which he describes as "a formal defense of fantasy as a literary genre: one with an illustrious history and profound possibilities. Modern critical thought tends to assume that anything that can be a form of escapism automatically is a form of escapism; but this is emphatically untrue."
He will also be outside in the Gardens all afternoon to visit with fans.
He is one of my favorites, so I want to make sure all the Sci-Fi/Fantasy fans anywhere near know he's going to here! Could you pass it on to Kevin's Watch?
You can find out more at www.BooksInBloom.org or call 870-423-5300.

I just got back from hearing SRD speak in Eureka Springs. It's too bad no other Watchers could go. The room was only 2/3 full, and I could tell that about 40% of people there have never read anything he wrote. Nonetheless, I thought his speech was great. I even got to ask him a question regarding recent comparisons of his works to Tolkien's writing.

Good for you, Lyr! Did you bring a pile of books for him to sign?
We should have a sign-up sheet here on the Watch for all of SRD's appearances, so there's always at least one Watcher there. Hmm, wait. Maybe that's a bit stalkerish....

That's hysterical!Wyldewode wrote:No. . . in fact, all of my books were packed away in storage--I forgot to get any out. I did get him to sign my program, but his name was spelled wrong in it. He commented on it.
