My "stupid shields" kept being activated in this one.
It's a trap!
We can't trust the Cylons!
Except........for the one that's been trusted for months and is here with us right now......
I have to give them credit though.
I'm still interested even though I have no fracking clue as to what's going on.

I missed last night's episode. F*&%in' tree in my neighbor's yard has grown about 10 feet since last year and is now full of leaves and is blocking my satellite signal.
Somebody PM me and tell me what I missed.
Damn!
edit: Never mind. I sometimes forget that I'm living in the 21st Century and I can watch missed episodes of my favorite shows online. Thanks, Fist.

HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! I GOT IT!!! I FIGURED THE WHOLE THING OUT!!!!
Wow. Listen up. Here's the entire thing. BSG revealed...
They're going to find Earth in the year 0. Or 30-ish AD, or whatever. Baltar will be Jesus. He'll have a small following when they land, preaching about the one, true God. Faith in the Greek/Roman gods is failing in the fleet, and they'll cause that to happen on Earth too.
He'll have 12 apostles - the 12 models. Cavil is Judas. You Christians help me out; who's the biggest apostle? That's who the last model will be.
YOU ALL KNOW I'M RIGHT!!!!!

Wonder if this season will see Gaete finally come out of the closet he so obviously is hiding in?
Doesn't the fact that they are singing a Jimi Hendrix song at the end of the last season kind of blow that theory out of the water, when you think about the implications?Fist and Faith wrote: Wow. Listen up. Here's the entire thing. BSG revealed...

Fist, that's a really interesting theory.

Interesting theory. I was working on one awhile back where the original colonists left earth around, say, 500 BC. And when they find earth it'll be our present-day. The song would have been traveling along radio waves... ah, there was more to it, but I scrapped it as implausible without trying to figure out any of the actual science. Might have worked, I mean, they had spaceships back then, right?
Oh, a change is coming, feel these doors now closing

I'm not overly worried about that. Damned near anything can be explained in sci-fi/fantasy, and it's damned near impossible to write a show/book/movie that doesn't have some flaw or other. How could they have been singing Hendrix in the first place? Neither the humans nor the cylons seem to know where Earth is, so they couldn't have gotten it from us. If they picked up radio signals, they'd be trying to follow the signals back to the source.Montresor wrote:Doesn't the fact that they are singing a Jimi Hendrix song at the end of the last season kind of blow that theory out of the water, when you think about the implications?
My point is, we're wondering why the hell the writers have Baltar becoming this religious leader. Preaching very similar things that Jesus preaches in the Bible. Is he going to come to Earth and reaffirm Christianity to the masses? He's got quite a harem, so maybe he'll be the next Warren Jeffs?

Certainly true, they can explain it how they like. When I heard the track in season 3, however, and given the fact that the characters were talking about it like it was something they all intimately knew on a subconcious level (whether as some old, old song which had encroached on becoming a folk tune; or as some kind of Jungian-race memeory angle), I thought the implications were stronger for suggesting contemporary eath culture being historical to the setting.Fist and Faith wrote:I'm not overly worried about that. I've always thought the Cylon god was intended to be like the Christian god, but I honestly don't expect Baltar to end up as Jesus, to be honest. The constant references thoughout the show to "all this has happened before, and all this will happen again blah blah" has made me wonder if the show will not just have a much darker ending.

I was thinking today about what Baltar's Resume must be like by now, and it's pretty unbelievable. Scientist, Doctor, President, Writer, Pastor. I am starting to realize that he really is a genius, he took to preaching pretty quick
I also noticed his following has gotten a hell of a lot bigger this ep.
However, the parallels you can make with our history, that has always been the nature of the show. It evokes things which are in our memories without running directly parallel to them. That is the real genius of the show. These are humans, with all the same problems as us, they are just different humans. I remember last season events were evocative of our current situation in the middle east, without being a direct, preachy allegory. Baltar's stand last week reminded me of the scene in Ghandi where he and his followers try to cross a line of british troops who are beating them to a pulp without fighting back, but without stopping. This week he reminded me of my own priest growing up. It eats away at my mind, the way the show does this. It uses all the detritus that's already in my brain and connects it in new and surprising ways every week. That's not a sign of a great television show, that's the sign of great *art*.

As far as where the series is going -- the 13 colonies have the same gods as the ancient greeks -- notice they aren't even Roman Names yet, ie Zeus instead of Jupiter, etc. I mean, its obvious, isn't it? My theory is that these guys are the predecessors of the greeks and will build that civilization, which gave birth to ours.
The romans conquered the greeks about 146 BC, so if the colonists gave rise to that civilization then Baltar wouldn't be christ. I guess its possible that they could have left earth after the greek mythology was in full swing but before the roman conquerers came.
Greece has to figure in somehow, though. or perhaps, maybe there will be an Atlantis tie in.

I can see why folks might think that sneaky old Baltar might become Jesus, but BSG is set in "our future" RDM has has said as much...and I still think that Cails theory rocks.Fist and Faith wrote:HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!! I GOT IT!!! I FIGURED THE WHOLE THING OUT!!!!
