Actually only one word...

'Nom.'

25 years later or so, and I still get goosebumps when I think of that one word (in it's context) on my first read through The One Tree.

The uncertainty and doubt...the just not knowing...of what was going to happen after Covenant summoned Nom will always be one of my favorite parts of all of The Chronicles.

That was one of the coolest moments in the series. There are so many depressing harsh moments in the book that you relish the times of hope. When Covenant says "Nom", you can't help but think, "Yep, that'll probably do it."

I will try to say you what is my favorite quoting in English ( in reality I read Thomas Covenant in French)
It's while a people dead in the first chronicle.
I forgot who , but her wife or him husband say a poem for the dead.

"Death is only one passageway ,
It leaves place and time for the life
It is necessary to hate the murder and the anguish,
but not death
Would be wise my heart,
Cradle your peace and your pain, and…
Would be wise… "

If someone remenber of that poem , and know the English version, I agree with your help :)

Wow, that's a really interesting re-translation. It's the 2nd verse of a poem spoken by (I think) Mhoram when his parents Variol and Tamarantha pass.

In English, its

"Death is passing on—-
the making way of life and time for life.
Hate dying and killing, not death.
Be still, heart:
make no expostulation.
Hold peace and grief
and be still."

----------------

And my favorite quote is

"I trust that Despite is not the sum of life."

-------------
"History is a myth men have agreed upon." - Napoleon

Wow, what a coincidence. I had planned to start this same thread, but about Mhoram's quotes. How 'bout "I don't like being this dangerous"?
Or (this might not be actual quote, I'm going on memory), "D**n it, Elena, I'm your father!" "I can't see what you see." "Can't you see I'm sick???" "Bloody hell!" "Don't touch me."
Heard my ears aright? Did not the gaddhi grant me this glaive?

Or Covenant's classic "entrance" into the 2nd chronicles:

TC: "Damn it, if I wanted visitors, I'd post a sign!"
LA: "Aren't you supposed to ring a bell or something?"
"History is a myth men have agreed upon." - Napoleon

Heres my favorite quote...it was said by Pitchwife in "The One Tree".

"Forsooth," responded Pitchwife with a light chuckle. "Had this Demondim-spawn not been gifted to the ur-Lord by a Giant, I would fear he means to ravish the maidenhood of our foremast." At that, laughter spouted from the nearby crewmembers.

Man. This was my favorite:

Are you a storyteller, Thomas Covenant?
I was, once.

And you gave it up? Ah, that is as sad a tale in three words as any you might have told me. But a life without a tale is like a sea without salt.
How do you live?

I live.

Another? In two words, a story sadder than the first. Say no more -- with one word you will make me weep.

I always imagine TC saying "fine" after that.
