Can I just say that time isn't passing fast enough. I'm so ready to meet you all now.

::hopping up and down::

So does it mean that things will be pretty quiet around here over those couple weeks? Sure, I'll be in the midst of it for the second weekend, but still...

Sea...can'tcha speed up time or sumptin'?

I hear ya, Caggy!

Wish I could speed up time! I'm getting a little toey here. TIRED OF WAITING!!!!!!!!!!

Although there is one good thing about things going slowly: the Aussie dollar is soaring (worth 96c US!!! Ah: three or so years ago it was worth 46c US). Might hit an even $1 before I get there!

Don't know how quiet things will be over the watch though. I'm sure one or two people will post updates. :)

I'm debating bringing the laptop with me. I can't imagine there would be wireless internet access at the campground, and I would hate having to carry it around with me everywhere though.

...one day I'll join Creator and Fist in access portability...

A friend suggested I bring my laptop (I hadn't really even considered it) but I don't think I will. I'd have to get wireless access...international roaming etc. Cost a fortune for me and it's all too hard. But, hey: I'd greatly appreciate if anyone who is hanging out with me would let me borrow their laptop for a couple of mins just so I can shoot an email home and stuff. :)

uh...thelma, i'll have mine with me too. ;)

of course, it probably won't have WOW on it. :( *sniffle sniffle*

when ger woke me this morning i was having a dream about...wyoming maybe? it was someplace i was driving in that had these beautiful rolling hills and BUTTES. does wyoming have buttes?

i'm ready to be ON THE ROAD!!!

finished typing up my final seminar paper last night and cobbling it together with my groups papers. (why did i say i would do that?)
i had to reformat the other 4 papers to match mine (as mine was the
best font for aged eyes like john's to read!! heh)
that was the last of my school work for the semester and i was up till
twelve thirty doing it.
i feel weird this morning with NOTHING pending to do!!
no essays to read, no papers to think about, no deadlines to meet. :?

Almost every hotel has free wireless access now a days, Sea. If your laptop has wireless, you should be good to go, depending on where you stay for the road trip.

I was thinking that SF might have, if not free, cheap city wireless..... Somewhere traveling last year one of the cities did, and I'm thinking that it was there.

Ya know, Louise: that just shows how sick I've been. I wasn't even thinking about the fact you have a laptop. urgh. I hope my brain returns before I get there.

As for WoW: don't you worry...you'll have me to keep you amused instead. And if you're really suffering from withdrawal I'm happy for you to dress up as a night elf and I'll pretend I'm a baddy and you can slay me with arrows. ;)

Yeah. I've had conversations with a few people about this (and I do have wireless) but I think I'd prefer not to have the hassle of dragging it half way across the world. It's not exactly a super light-weight one. As long as I can send a few emails along the way and do internet banking and the like all should be good.

hey San Franciscians: I've been talking to my hairdresser today who told me when she was in SF she had this WONDERFUL seafood chowder that you got in a hollowed out piece of bread. She says I MUST have one of these (actually she made some analogy about sex but I'll spare you all that). Said she got it on some boardwalk somewhere on the coast. Ring any bells???????

Well, it's not *quite* the same thing...but Magickmaker and I had broccoli cheese soup in a bread bowl at Panera for dinner tonight. Mmm, chowder in a bread bowl sounds pretty tasty...mmmmmmm....

Oh! Define "bread bowl"! Yes, it's a round-ish loaf of bread, out of which they cut a plug that's maybe 3 in. diameter, and into the resulting hole they ladle the soup. Plus they give you the plug of bread (or they do at Panera, anyhow). So you get to dip bread in the soup...and then finish the soup with a spoon...and then eat the bowl, too. (I love Panera -- as if the bread bowl wasn't quite enough starch, they then ask you if you'd like a hunk o' baguette with your meal.... )

My unce just got back from the US and said if you haven't got a new biometric passport (i.e. one with a chip) you can't get into the country. That means I need to get a new passport in the next couple of weeks, which might not be possible.

Also, passport control/customs apparently want to know the address you're staying at, so Jenn: I need you to PM/email me your address before I fly.

Scratch the panic. Phoned the airline and the passport office, and they both said my current passport is fine.

I still need Jenn's address though, and maybe even the one for wherever we're staying in Denver (my uncle is adamant that he was asked where he was staying, and the addresses of anywhere else he'd be moving on to during his visit).

I was just getting ready to suggest you talk to someone official, Cj. I am sure such a requirement would have been all over the news otherwise.

It would be good to have, so those at home have a way of contacting you if needed. But again, I would follow up with a travel agency or whomever instructs y'all officially on the requirements of customs in different countries. I know there are students who come to visit the US with a "walkabout" strategy in mind. They have no idea where they will wind up. Yet, they still get in somehow.

Yeah, there's three types of passports currently accepted in the US. I panicked the other week thinking "OMG I need a visa" because I thought my passport wasn't the one accepted for the visa waiver program but having quadripple checked I'm aok.

As for details of where you're staying: yep, you need to be able to say where you're staying the first night.

Lonely Planet suggests you do not talk up visiting friends and relatives as you may be more of a risk of not leaving the country (in the eyes of customs). Putting something like: traveling the US to get together with fellow fans of the author Stephen Donaldson would be a cool safe thing to put.

Also, you've got to make sure you have evidence of a round ticket as well as enough money to survive on for the duration of your stay (Lonely Planet suggests having at least $400 for each week would be sufficient to demonstrate that but meh....). Lonely Planet suggests you have an itenary (but that would be as easy as saying "staying in SF, traveling round then flying to Denver".
