Reaper

Post by Chrysalis »

Has anyone come across the series Reaper yet?

I watched the first couple of episodes last night and it reminds me of Dead Like Me (although not as good in my opinion).

If you've seen it what do you make of it? Does it improve?

No Dead Like Me, but yeah, it's pretty good. Not too fond of the female lead, but if there are ever any new episodes, it looks like there might be some new more excitement in that category.

I enjoyed the 10 episodes they aired so far... I think it's rather good in its own way, although it risks suffering from the same syndrome that touched both The 4400 and Smallville - the so-called "freak of the week". Other than that though, I think it's very good. As far as I know, they'll air a new episode soon (they ordered 13 this season, but I'm not sure how the writers' strike affected the shooting).

Reaper is good fun, perhaps a bit too formulaic, BUT Ray Wise is great as the devil!

Syl-I agree-the female lead could be better judging from the few episodes I have now watched. I shall hope the new episodes bring better options!

Xar-whats with all the srtike action? I keep hearing about it and I know certain shows have been affected.

A Gunslinger-I've now watched up to episode 7 - enjoying it quite a bit. The devil character does add some great bits to it all - great choice of actor for the part!

I think it's great that the DMV is the disposal sight for the demons. Better still is that they have to wait in line like everyone else!

Reaper Ep. 11 aired yesterday, as I understand... still have to see it though. Supposedly there are four more episodes coming before the end of the season, but CW hasn't announced whether it'll get picked up for next season or not.

It did? Cool! I was wondering if they planned to ever release anything more. I'll have to look out for it.

I've seen a couple of episodes, but I found it predictable and unengaging. A promising idea, wasted. Again.

There are very few really great ideas these days that are carried out to reach full potential. Reaper reminds me of the film Employee of the Month which was mild entertainment.

Did you ever watch Dresden Files?

No. The name rings a bell, but that's about it.

If any BSG fans are watching the show, Kandyse McClure (Dualla) has been on the last two eps playing Ben's 'mistress.' I laughed pretty hard at the point where Ted walked up to them and asked what was going on.

The CW has renewed Reaper for another season, however they only ordered a "midseason" of 13 episodes thus far. It appears it will be paired with Supernatural and - once Smallville ends next year - it might receive additional episode orders, provided ratings improve a bit.

Thanks for the info Xar! Good to know.

Can't say I was a huge Supernatural fan - it seemed to borrow things from good horror films a bit too often.

Supernatural is a great show; so is Reaper...Reaper has just started to actually have some direction...its actually going somewhere..instead of just some dude collecting escaped souls for the devil...

K, I'm downloading episode 10 now, and I'm loving what I've seen so far. I can see the "Freak of the Week" complaint, but it ain't nearly as bad as 1st season Smallville. Even after the first nine episodes I see lots of variation and new directions things could take (purposefully vague as I would hate to spoil anything.)

The Devil and Sock get me laughing out loud in just about every episode. And some of the visual humor in episode 9, with the shop-vac... just wrong, and hillareous. IMHO, great writing.

Never seen Dead Like Me. Always thought it was not a comedy, or am I thinking of Six Feet Under?

Probably thinking of Six Feet Under (though it did have some decent dark comedy the first two seasons). Dead Like Me was a bit more serious than Reaper, but still pretty damn funny.
