Timeline of the Last Chronicles

Post by Beyondthebreach »

I am posting this here, but it also refers to Runes of the Earth . . .

What I am wondering is if anyone has an exact (or close to exact) estimate of how long Linden has been in the Land? How many days/weeks/months have passed since she first appeared on Kevin's Watch in Runes of the Earth up until the end of Fatal Revenant?

Sure . . . I guess I could do the leg work myself, but certain time constraints make reading the books over and noting the passage of days difficult at the moment, so I thought I would throw this query out there in case anyone happens to know. :)

Best estimates are fine if no one knows for sure . . . 8)

ROTE has LA in the Land for only a few days - it seems to me not to be longer than a week. She goes back in time to get the SoL and spends only about a day there, maybe a little longer.

FR has LA in Revelstone for a couple of days before going back to Berek's time, where she spends quite a bit of time traveling around Garroting Deep - say, 2 weeks.

When she comes back to the present time, she learns that she has been in the past for 13 days. I would presume that is supposed to correlate with the amount of time she's been in Berek's time.

On the way to Andelain, Stave tells her that it will take about 6 days to get to Andelain, with the extra time being making their way through the jungle that is Salva Gildenbourne.

So, it seems to me she's been in the Land for about a month, give or take a day or two. This is my best guess, feel free to correct me.

That sounds about right, though I didn't think she spent quite that long in Berek's time.

Also makes me wonder if there's a component to the Law of Time that when you time-travel you have to return the same amount of time later as you spent in the past. In other words, Linden *could* have returned to Revelstone 5 minutes after leaving w/ Roger and Jeremiah, but she didn't -- she came back approximately the same length of time that she spent in Berek's time. (Whether that was "law" or it was the time the Mahdoubt wanted her to return we don't know.) And I think it was about the same length of time for the trip to get the Staff? Stave tells her "when" it is after they return but I don't remember.

If true, it might also relate to how intact the Law / Arch is...

One would hope that there is some component of the Law that prevents you from being the same Time more than once...which means Linden would have had to come back after she left, and not before....

Which raises an interesting question...how much power could you raise with two or more Lindens....with the Staff....and the ring....in one spot, in one time?

Indeed. If "Covenant" mentioned being able to be in two places at once, I'm sure that at some point Linden's going to try to do it!
