I totally agree with you there TRC. They can't be done. They are all done on an internel basis, which LOTR is not.

Since LotR was a story-driven work, it was easily adapted into movie form. TCTC, however, is very character-driven, focusing on the psychology of Covenant, so realy, it can't be done and remain the same type of story. If it was a film, we'd see the rape and without the insight into covenants mind wed never have reason to forgive him for it (or at least understand it)...

I caution those of you who feel a film would be undoable. Don't underestimate the creativity of film makers. You never can tell.

I've said this many times, I don't think a movie can be done. There is too much of Covenant's psyche that would be lost on film. Unless they do something like voice over to convey his thought process, which would get very old, very fast. Most of the story is in Covenant's head, his bitterness, grief, lonliness, not to mention his unbelief. How can all that be protrayed on film? I don't see it happening.

But, to be fair...I never thought anyone could do LOTR justice either, and I was proven wrong there, so who knows.

Given how much controvery the rape scene creates here among die hard fans...it would have to be handled very carefully indeed in a movie... :?

Don't underestimate the ability of hollywood to ruin stories. Donaldson himself has spoken against a film version of his books, simply because no one can do it right. I personally think they shouldn't do it.

hmmm...good question Vain. Actually, when I first heard that they were doing LOTR I groaned. I never ever thought that any film-maker could do it justice.

So, If they DID do a TCTC movie, it would have to have an exceptional director, like PJ, and be true to the books for me to go to it. And SRD would have to give his approval of it. Which I doubt he would. He doesn't even like the cover art on his books...what would he say about a movie??? :?

I still say it would be very very hard for them to convey Covenant's inner turmoils, and so much of the story is driven by his thought process. How could they do that in a film?

Well wherever the auditions were held, I would make it a point to go and get a part. That would be an opportunity I would not want to miss out on.

if Lord of the Rings can be done, so could the chronicles...but as i said in the "filmed thread", it would most likley be seen as a rip off, since alot of people wouldnt have read it...

and as i said in that thread, id like to see an anime version, though....a la Record of Lodoss War...thatd be coo...
Think on that, and be dismayed

who really cares if they give insight into the characters' thought process? I already KNOW TC's thinking, so it would only be for the non-fans. Who I don't care about, BTW. As long as all the actions take place that need to take place and I get to see Mhoram setting fire to his foes, I'll be happy, and isn't that what really matters?
