Atonement--not what I expected

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie, after seeing the trailers I thought it was all about WWII, it is "enveloped" by the war but really transcends it. Very well written (wish I had read the book), directed and acted--I was pretty blown away by Kiera Knightly's performance.

yes it turns out to be "device" oriented, but they did a good of hiding and utilizing it

I was the same way Danlo - I thought this was supposed to be a WWII movie, I knew about the little sister and the lie but knew very little else. The movie was just OK for me UNTIL the end, which I thought was a great 'device' and really made the movie great for me.
