I've only been driving for 11 years, but I've owned nine cars in that time. This is partly because I spent a few years tuning and racing cars. I started with the Peugeot and made it into a fierce wee beastie, but I then picked up the Fiat and toned the Peugeot down again to make it more practical as my main car. Later I switched the Fiat for the Lotus, but I had two cars (one for work and one for play) between 1998 and 2002.

1982 Austin Mini 1000
1983 VW Polo
1992 Peugeot 106 XSi
1985 Fiat Strada Abarth
1982 Talbot Sunbeam Lotus
1991 VW Jetta
2000 Vauxhall Astra SXi
2000 Audi A2
2005 Citroen C4 VTS

I don't have digital pics of many of them (my mother has some originals though) and none on this computer, but this is what a few of them look like:

Image
My current car is practically identical to this one (my windows aren't tinted) and on balance it's the best car I've owned to date. The styling is a bit love-it-or-hate-it, but I think it has a rather dramatic look and it's also aerodynamically excellent. Mine is a big turbo diesel model and it's ideal for my needs; it'll do 90mph all day, every day without complaint and it returns 40mpg at that speed. Being a Citroen it's also packed full of electronic gizmos to make life easier and the interior is a nice place to be as well, which is vital if you're going to spend a lot of time there with work.

Image
This is the Fiat Strada Abarth, the legendary "Flying Red Shed". This one is in much better condition than mine, which collected a lot of bumps and scrapes and even went corkscrewing through the gravel at Donington. It was basically a typical mid-80s Italian rotbox, but Fiat had built it in order to meet homologation rules for the world rally championship. This meant the engine the Abarth version had served as the base of Fiat's rally car engine and it was utterly insane. I put stiffened suspension, a roll cage (like the one in the picture) and better brakes on it, but it was always a car you fought through the corners and unleashed on the straights. My party piece was to floor it in first gear and turn the front wheels from lock to lock, then back to the centre before the tyres warmed up and bit.

Image
This was my favourite car of them all though: a Talbot Sunbeam Lotus in Moonstone Blue. It was basically another rust-prone smallish hatchback, but this time fitted with a 2.2 litre engine from Lotus that actually drove the rear wheels (I've never encountered another RWD car that small). It actually put out more power than the Strada, but was a lot more civilised about it, with a lot less body roll, wider tyres and the FR layout providing better balance. The standard brakes were frighteningly inadequate however, and I soon opted for the biggest Black Diamonds that would fit.

This is the one car I seriously think about buying again, however decent surviving examples are not cheap and I'd really need somewhere warm and dry to store it. My own private oil refinery would help too; I once ran out of petrol at a track day and calculated my fuel economy at 6mpg!

Parents' cars that I never got to drive:
196x Chevy El Camino (Bondo gray)
1968 Oldsmobile Toronado Coupe (a greenish dark yellow)

Parents' cars that I eventually got to drive:
198x Chevy Celebrity (it did NOT make you feel like one)
198x Ford Econoline Custom Van (serial killer white, w/ shag carpet, mini-fridge and dinette seating that converted into a caricature of a bed)
1982 GMC S-15 compact pickup (the "you need to learn to drive stick" vehicle)
1978 AMC Pacer X Hatchback - Firecracker Red (four on the floor - and simply the coolest little car ever made)

Cars that were all mine, or technically mine:
1981 Buick Skyhawk (dk blue - the little hatchback that could, except that it really couldn't)
1987 Plymouth Voyager (THE college crew van - and the infamous "white van kids" van)
1989 Plymouth Voyager (College crew van, the sequel - and the unfortunate victim of the Reba-chips incident of 1995)
1996 Saturn SL1 (the first car that I owned from new - I was responsible for nearly all 149,000 miles on it, including our honeymoon trip)
1981 Pontiac Grand Prix Brougham (my wife's $1 car that always needed dark rituals)
1997 Toyota Corolla SE (the car that died to save my honey from harm)
1999 Pontiac Bonneville SLE (Sparkling Beige V6 Moving Hooptie Couch. My wife's current car. She has liked it for years now, but we will be looking to replace it next year with something more fuel-efficient)
2005 Chrysler 300C (Bright Silver Metallic - w/ Hemi, of course, and autostick. Ordered straight from the factory in Windsor, this is my current car - and except for the cringe every time I put $4 gas in it, I love this car above all others. I'm told that the engine governor kicks in somewhere above 130 8) ).

Interesting addition of parent's cars! All I remember of the 60's was that my dad had a series of small Ramblers. (I think technically his first one just kept getting reincarnated into older and browner versions.) Then in the mid 70's he did a figurative 180 by getting a powder blue station wagon (on its death bed with 4 bald tires.) No surprise that it died before I could drive it and he never got another car. One of my few regrets as a child was that I never got to throw up in one of those Ramblers.

I could not begin to list all the cars my parents had. My dad was a mechanic and was always bringing home some car to fix up. The last several cars he owned were land yachts -- an Olds 98, an Olds 88, and then the Cutlass he bought for my mom. The Cutlass is still sitting in her garage, I believe.

The '67 Mustang was, in fact, rescued as it was headed to the boneyard. He used sheet metal from an old shower stall to patch the rust, and replaced one mangled door with a door from another Mustang that had been mangled on the other side. Our car had the green interior and the replacement door had the black interior. Whatever. Man, that was a sweet car....

My parents had some great cars up until my brother and I came along.

My dad had an MG-TC, a Buick Roadmaster Convertible (spitting image of the car from Rain Man), a turbo Corvair 'vert, and an old Jaguar XK120. Then I popped out and they bought a Dodge Polara 4-door with a 440 Wedge. Thing sounded like the gates of Hell had opened when you stepped on the gas.

That was followed by a Renault 12, a Pinto station wagon, and a Datsun B210.

Mom fought for (and kept) the Pinto in the divorce, and married a guy that drove a Ford Ranchero. The Ranchero was apparently too cool, so that got traded in on a Volkswagon diesel Rabbit pickup (in powder blue). That lasted until his company gave him a real truck. The Pinto gave up the ghost around 1981 as was promptly replaced by the only cool car my mother ever owned....A 1980 Chevy Malibu 4-door. What was cool about it was that we bought it from the police department...It was a decommissioned cop car. Cop engine. Cop suspension. Cop brakes. I truly loved that car, as it would run like a raped ape, and was nothing short of awesome at catching air on the hills around Elkridge. That was replaced by an '86 Honda Accord, which was in turn (inexplicably, as my brother and I were both in college) replaced by a Plymouth minivan. At some point during that time, my stepfather bought a kick-assed Honda Prelude SI, but I never got to drive that (which, in hindsight, was a very wise decision on his part).

Dad, on the other hand, only moved up in the world. Dad, bless his heart, made that poor B210 last until 1981, when he replaced it with a Buick Century (which I have to admit was a pretty decent, if boring, car). Then Dad outdid himself and bought a 1985 Audi Coupe GT. Sweet car with a red leather interior. In the early '90s he decided he was too old for such foolishness and has had a parade of thoroughly boring old man cars including not one, but two Caprices and an Impala (not the cool one either).

1984 Renault Encore--my parents owned this, and let me drive it when I got my license. It was named Mortimer, and/or the Roach.

1982 Nissan Maxima (First car that I ever owned. . . this car did nothing but suck money, since I bought it with a bum transmission, and couldn't find a new diesel one anywhere within the state).

1982 Plymouth Reliant station wagon (bought it for $700 cash, and drove it into the gorund). It was named the Silver Bullet.

1986(?) Dodge Aries (My parents had this as their spare car, and I drove it through college. I think it died about 2 years ago. )

I went three years without owning any car. . . a feat that seems impossible now! 8O

2003 Chevy Malibu (My current car, had it since 2004.) This car has no name.
