I think this is an ok place to respond. My camera is a Canon Rebel Eos XT. I picked it because of all the video cameras I have used over the years, the canon gave the best color and clarity in my experience. The canons tend to be a bit boxier than other comparable models but the payoff is well worth it.
Thanks for the compliments everyone. I got so lucky with my creature spottings. I told Julie it was almost as if the birds were competing for America's Next Top Bird Model...

thanks cyn! i got a bunch of perfectly similar round cardboard cutouts from work, and i've been leaving that message for strangers to have.

Thought I would post up a few more from yesterdays adventure...

This is what it looks like when you start to piss off a blue heron.

So pretty when they are airborne.

More egret.

Egret and Seagull.

Egret hunting minnows.

Flying Egret.

I like the motion in this pic even thought the egret is a bit out of focus.

Again out of focus but something about it draws me.

Fog rolling over the hills.

Four sentry squirrels hard at work.

Flying Heron.

Jackrabbit having lunch.

The Marina view if you turn around and look away from the Jackrabbit.

Another marina view.

Pelican.

Since I put up a pic of fat squirrel and sleek squirrel thought I would include one of their friend "just beginning to get a beerbelly" squirrel.

More Pelicans.

The Shadowdancer.

Making sure both directions are covered.

Three for one Snowy Egret special.

This guy must have had at least a six if not seven foot wingspan.

Do it Ali! I paid 800 for the camera and my mom and steve paid about 1000 for the 300 zoom lens. Worth every freaking penny. I got amazing pictures long before the other lens though. The new lens means I just have to be less patient or more so depending on how close I wanna get to a subject. It's so clear and so quick that you can even zoom in some on photo files. I would pimp the canon rebel eos xt for canon in a heartbeat. it's heavy for it's counterparts and bulky but seriously it's the best camera I wanted to get my hands on for the prices I was looking at. Start saving.

Allow me to gush over your wildlife pics, too, CMJ!
I'm assuming you used one of Canon's telephoto lenses, somewhere in the 70-200mm range, for those shots? Currently I see a lot of advertisements that bundle DSLRs with a standard kit lens plus a long range telephoto lens for a pretty decent price. Such affordability for DSLRs was unheard of just a few short years ago. This is a wonderful time for those wishing to invest in a DSLR arsenal for minimal cost.
In any case, I agree that Canon cameras possess great color fidelity and image clarity, whether in the compact models or DSLRs.
Edit -- ha, you sneaked in there while I was making my post and answered my question. A 300mm lens, eh? Since that cost your folks a grand, it must be premium glass, as they say.

It's a 55 to 300 lens that my mom and stepdad were so kind to gift me with for my last birthing day. But the canon even without the fancy lens is a miracle. Love LOVE LOVE that camera.

Robyn, The use of area and distance to convey or evoke is always a challenge in photography. I had a problem in a picture below that you succeeded with in yours. I titled it,
" Tell Everyone I said Hi!"
