Well damn

Ok, Murrin, Damelon, and myself have been reworking the guild a bit this morning. Demotions for everyone, yay!

We're going to have to start doing a few things:

-No high-ranked alts. With the possibility of a few exceptions, it just isn't necessary.

-Extensive use of the officer notes. Label your alt. Also, if you invite someone note it on their officer note so we can know who they are. I suck at remembering things like that, and when we get into the 40 member range, it gets really hard.

-Too many chiefs, not enough Indians. I know it feels good to have an officer rank, but it's really not necessary unless they have an officer stake. I think we have enough... dunno... core members on at one time that we don't really need a large officer corps. Sergeant is a respectable rank.

I talked to a GM this morning, and he said the problem (it looks like a minor epidemic) is coming from people clicking on links or visiting gold-buying sites and ending up with keyloggers. So just look out for that along with the usual email kind of stuff. If you want to shell out $6.50 for some added security, there's the Blizzard Authenticator. It wouldn't hurt to also check your addons and all that.

Any suggestions or comments are always welcome.

Creator, hope everything works out for Kat. From my talk with the GM, it sounds like an investigator will be going over the account and restoring stuff. No worries about the guild stuff. The damage wasn't all that bad, and there's a good chance it will be restored.

Ugh. Poor Kat - hope everything can be fixed for her. She put so much work into her characters. :?

That's exactly why I don't use addons - I don't know enough about the programming language to know what's safe.

Given my recent virus issues, I am definitely going to buy a couple of authenticators.

Thanks. She was heartbroke about her characters. But felt even worse about hurting the guild. Thank you all for being understanding and supportive of her. |G

And I will get the authenticator. Cheap protection!

I have been resisting forever trying out this game but I finally relented last week!
I'm still on my trial period but I get the feeling it will be hard not to buy the game at the end of it. I'm only at level 15 so nothing special.
It doesn't help I have some cousins staying with me who are addicts already.

I assume most people here are on the US servers?

For the most part, we are on the US server The Scryers. Our guild is The Watch. :)

Patch day!

MMO-Champion is putting together a post with information on everything that's changing going into 3.0, worth looking at if you're not up to date (and the official patch notes certainly aren't).

Thanks for the link, I will be sure to take a look!

Actually, I've been thinking...I haven't signed up for the full game yet and if I do so it will be on the UK servers. However, if I had a trial from the US I am assuming I can join to a US server? Seems to make more sense to be on a server/region where friends and family play.
Is that even possible?

A US account (trial or full) is required to play on US servers, an EU account for EU servers. If you got the US trial, you'd be able to play on US servers, yes, but you'd need to buy a US account to continue playing beyond the trial period.

The actual installed version of the game can be either UK or US, you just need to change the logon server to whichever youwant to connect to; you still need the account, though. (You can, for example, install the UK version with someone else's game discs, then buy a US account online to play. The disadvantage is the UK game updates a day after the US version does, so you're left out for 24 hours whenever there's a patch.)

US account subscription is cheaper, heh.

By the way, if any of you guys have not been getting the background downloads as they came out, you might want to start downloading the patch as soon as possible (it's already out and working, though servers are still offline) - it's more than 1.2Gb. I only had to wait 10 minutes to finish because I'd downloaded all the background stuff already.

It's been going on in the background for the last couple of weeks, so I assume I'm ok.

hmmm. I checked on Ro at the armory and it shows that he has 2 talent points allocated. Wasn't hacked, since I was able to sign in and look at the guild bank. I'll have to check on it when I get home.

Patch, Damelon. Armory is showing updated gear but old talent trees, so it's giving weird numbers. Plus sounds like you haven't respecced yet (all talent points were refunded with patch).

Less than half the servers are back up; ours is one of the ones still offline.

Guess I didn't play much in the last couple of weeks - been downloading the patch for the last four hours. I did get to the new sign-on screen with the ice dragons and such, so I think I'm almost there and it looks cool. 8O

Stormwind Harbor is huge! One ship goes to Auberdine.

There's also a big pit where Dalaran used to be. Pipes that are fenced in are at several spots around the bottom.

There are also a couple of neat spells for priests, Hymn of Hope restores mana to party members over a 40 yard radius. Circle of Healing seems better than before when I tested it at AV and WSG.

Love the new pet talents and skills - my cat now has over 10K health.

Speaking of cats, one of the first things I did was buy another stable slot and run to Eversong to tame a red lynx. When I was about level 35 I ran to Eversong for the first time (mostly as a ghost) and tamed a springpaw stalker, which was the highest level red lynx available, and then only a maximum of level 7. Unfortunately, I found the level difference too drastic to be practical, and after wasting several hours I went back to my snow leopard. At level 68 I got my tawny lynx, my main pet, but always wished I had stuck with leveling a red one because they're cool and you rarely see an Alliance character with one.

With the new patch, pets level automatically to within five levels, so taming a level 7 actually gets you a level 65 if you're 70.

...and after all that, I immediately went back to my original lynx. What can I say? It's late and I'm weird.

[Edit] The harbor is incredible, and druids being able to rezz with no reagents or cooldown and keeping the in-combat rezz... well, I doubt I will ever be a priest or paladin if my druid is a 'real' healer - though paladins are still tempting for other reasons.

This was fun, even with my cat breathing down the back of my neck and a lack of a reflection in the mirror:

Opinions!

Instant cast Fireball

or

Mana-restoring Elemental

:?:

Decide for me!

(Timkins has three talent points left after reaching Water Elemental. I couldn't decide between these two new talents.)
