Time traveling evidence

Post by shadowbinding shoe »

In the first chronicles we see a chamber in Revelstone that is lighted by a mysterious white light. (a hall that leads to the lords' rooms) Could it be a place where Linden (or maybe Covenant now) used white magic in the distant past in the time of the old lords?

Given that the same chamber in the 2nd Chrons is NOT lit, I assumed it was something the Lords themselves performed. Once they were gone (transformed into the Clave), the light went too.

I thought the Clave actively destroyed/fed it to the sunbane. They were destroying all sorts of wonders all the time.

But on the figurative level you're probably right. This lighted chamber represented the wonder of Lords, so when they became servants of darkness, their lit chamber fell into darkness.
A little knowledge is still better than no knowledge.

The chamber you're referring to is the outer hall leading to the Lords' private quarters. The floor shone with a bright light, and IIRC began to shine after the Staff of Law returned to Revelstone, sometime after LFB. We first see that hall when Covenant is brought to speak with Elena in TIW (he returns there twice more in TIW, once when visiting Mhoram and once Callindrill.)

Sometime after TPTP, when the Clave is in power, the floor stopped shining. We don't know why. However, this is the same hall where Covenant's soothtell is performed, and after he erupts with wild magic, the floor is permanently cracked and starts to shine again. It was still shining when Covenant and Linden met there in WGW. We don't know if it's shining now, AFAIK we haven't been back there in the Last Chronicles.

Are you sure it wasn't lit before? Just because we didn't see it before doesn't mean it wasn't there. I remember Lord Mhoram thinking of using the power in it in the defense of Revelstone in TPTP. From what he said it sounded like it has always been there. (And that he had no idea what this power was.)

Yes, this was why I thought it was made with wild magic (and the fact that it was a white light, and not blue like the Lords' fire)
