Rampant Duplicity during the Holiday Season

Have you ever noticed just how deceitful people become during the holidays? I'm willing to bet there are more falsehoods uttered in November and December than any other time of the year.

"Where are you going, Honey?"
"Me? Um...I'm going to...er...the bakery."
LIAR! You are going to buy your unsuspecting husband a Christmas gift!

"Mom? What am I getting for Christmas?"
"Aw honey. We don't have much money this year. Maybe next time."
LIAR! You already bought little Timmy his XBOX 360 and you are hiding it in your closet!

"Mommy are you and Daddy really Santa Claus?"
"Of course not, sweetie. If we were we would have to admit to being filthy liars for the past 6 years. Now go to sleep sugar muffin."
LIAR! You know pefectly well who Santa Claus really is!

"How do you like your gift, Spencer?"
"Um...it's great...just what I wanted."
LIAR! It sucks and you know it!

HOWEVER!

All of this duplicity serves a wonderful purpose, making thrilling surprises and holiday fun possible and I wouldn't trade it for anything in the world.

I used to work with a man who had married a woman from Thailand. He said that in Asia the custom was for you to receive the gifts and then take them home and unwrap them in private so as to not offend the giver in any way. Anybody know if this is true?

What about the fact that we bought the "kids" a Wii for Christmas but I can't wait for them to get it so that I can play it?

See, that's the great thing about having Santa presents set up Christmas morning...you can have played with them all night long. And if you have to replace the batteries first thing in the morning, so be it.

This year.. i used the excuse: What? she sent two boxes!!? I bet one of them was meant for my brother!,,So i better open them up and see which one was supposed to go to him... Both where meant for me.
If she withdrew from exaltation, she would be forced to think- And every thought led to fear and contradictions; to dilemmas for which she was unprepared.

I'm in the same boat. Add to that the fact that I'm pissed off that the wife wants to go to her sister's for Christmas and I see it as only time away from Mario.

From the time Beorn was an infant, and probably before, corporate locations have been hosting birthday parties. Places like gymnastic parties, arcade parties, even fast food places like McDonald's have birthday hosts for parents to schedule a 90 minute to two hour party.

At every one I have been to, you place the gift you brought on a gift table, and the family brings them home to open later. I have seen this becoming a trend at home parties as well. So, it may be infiltrating here in the states as well...

During the christmas season, I freely and deliberately cause my children to believe in a mythical man, who will judge them harshly if they so much as cry. I tell them he will bring gifts to the worthy believers, and I encourage them to ask for free things rather than to earn them honestly through hard work.

I may be unpopular, but I shun the entire "santa" thing. If I ever have children they will never be subjected to lying on that matter. :P

Wow, yeah, that's yet another decision as an expectant father I'll have to make. Santa or no Santa? Yikes. While it is quite a blow to learn that Santa isn't real, the magic of believing is wonderful. Then again, I think finding out Santa wasn't real made me lose faith in the baptist God.

So yeah, it's Santa all the way then...

I have no problem with the historical Saint Nicholas, and would educate my hypothetical children about him and such. I'm a "live and let live" kind of person, so I'd make sure that they knew santa wasn't a topic to discuss with other kids. :P

I would totally lie. Give them a bunch of cool gifts and then make them give them all to charity. MUH UH AH AH AH!!!!!!! :P
Now if I could just find a way to wear live bees as jewelry all the time.....
