Aforementioned knee will require surgery. :(

I've had problems with this knee pretty much all of my adult life, but recently it's been worse. The orthopedist gave me a hefty knee support to wear for activity until such time as I can get the surgery done.

It is unfortunate that you are having recurring knee troubles, MsMary - I've never had any, but a good friend of mine has suffered from one knee issue or another all his life, so I know how debilitating and demoralizing it can be. All I can say is, make sure your orthopedist is top-notch, ask lots of questions, and follow all the instructions pre and post surgery, to shorten recovery time and get moving as soon as possible. My friend weened himself off the post-op pain meds sooner than he had to - he feared he would get addicted to them - so was in some pretty bad pain for a while. He did all the prescribed movements and physical therapy, though, and moves a lot better than he ever has before (with essentially two new knees)

In the short term, proper knee motion and keeping moving is WAY more important than any number reported on a scale. You can deal with the scale later - keep your knee-health top priority.

Hope I'm not being too preachy. :)

I am expecting a good result. And I know enough about pain meds to know that I won't get addicted from short term necessary use.

Thanks Dukka and Camerasis Jenn, but none of your solutions sound like they feel as GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooood as the heroin diet plan. Seriously...how many fat junkies do you see?

Cag: Lemme know how the heroin diet works. If the Weight Watchers thing peters out, I'd consider trying that next....

MsMary: Hugs to you, and good luck with the knee surgery. Won't it be terrific to finally have it fixed? :)

Plateaus are hard, but I hear that if you work hard enough and change the exercise/eating habit you can get over them. :?

I often think Cathy is a silly comic strip, but today she hit the nail on the head:

Get a Ipod Nano or Iphone or anything that can download this App called LOSE IT.

It is the greatest damn tool ever for losing weight. You basically punch in all the info for calories, fat, and servings. You tell it where you want to weigh in at. It gives you a date by calculating your height and current weight and then it rations you to losing 1- 2 pound a week. So now it gives you a chart you can follow and a meter on how much calories you can eat in the day.

If you follow it you will lose weight. I lost 37 pound using since February.

I really recommend this if you can't get alot of exercise because it allows you to eat what you want but it gives you a visualization of what your doing and that will allow you keep tabs on your eating habits and reducing them but not killing yourself while at it.

Well, I haven't progressed anywhere near as well as I planned. I intended to be slimmer than this by Christmas. On the bright side, though, people here keep saying (very tactfully) things like "I looked at your San Francisco photos and you were so much fatter then!"

New exercise routine.
If you're over 40, you might want to take it easy at
first, then do it faster as you become more proficient.

It may be too strenuous for some.

Always consult your doctor before starting any exercise program!

SCROLL DOWN...

NOW SCROLL UP.. .

That's enough for the first day. Great job.

Have a Beer. And some Geritol

;)

It'd take you a long time to blow up or shoot all the sheep in this country, but one diseased banana...could kill 'em all.

I didn't even know sheep ate bananas.

I've become quite toned and fit this year from working out 3 days a week every month. I'm actually shooting to gain more weight, going from a current 194 to 220. Again, I've got so fit that just adding the pounds would equal buff-ness. I hardly ever jog anymore, but my legs remain the strongest part of my body, and when I do take a few laps around the subdivision it feels great as ever. I'm definitely not the average novelist or fantasy fan... Heh.

Why is it that everyone on the face of the earth says exercise makes them feel good? Am I the only person in the world who exercises and then feels awful? People used to say the same thing back when I had gym membership. "Oh, I love going to the gym. I feel really great and full of energy afterwards!" Really? Really?! I feel like crap afterwards.

Agreed. Three months ago I collapsed outside of Fitness First - I was pale and clammy, tachycardic and nauseous. All from working too hard. It was a clear sign to me that working out hard is pants.
