Favorite ROLLER-Coasters (Smartasses) :)

Post by Zarathustra »

Ok, it's probably a bit early for this, but Kings Island's Diamondback coaster was just completed (we're on the mailing list :) ), so I'm already psyched.

It will be Kings Island's first hypercoaster. We go to this amusement park every summer, and last year they had a display booth of their newest ride, coming this year. The display model was enough to make your heart race and your palms sweaty. It drops 215 feet and goes over 80 mph. No loops to slow it down, just drop after drop. And the open-seat design should be thrilling.

This site has CGI animation of how it will look, plus pictures of its construction.

I know there are bigger/faster coasters out there, but none within an hour drive of my home.

That looks insane!

I'm more of a wooden coaster fan myself....the best I've ever been on is The Voyage, Holiday World, Southern Indiana. A short drive for you, eh, Malik?

Wanna go for a ride? :)

I LOVE coasters! I used to go to Alton Towers at least twice a year when I lived in the UK. Our local amusement park here is in Amarillo and, while it's not great, it's got a couple of passable coasters.

I've yet to go to Six flags. :(

Busch Gardens in Williamsburg has some good ones. At some point, I want to make the pilgrimage to Cedar Point and ride the Dragster (120mph, 420-foot drop).

But it's in Ohio, and Ohio pretty much sucks.

I think my kids did the Dragster when we were at Cedar Point. I *know* they stood in that freakin' long line at Kings Dominion to ride that coaster for which the ride takes approximately 3.5 seconds.

I used to ride roller coasters, but I've avoided them ever since a (relatively tame) ride on a log flume ride at the Mall of America. There was a big drop at the end of the tunnel, and of course they snap your picture and then try to sell you various tchotckes with your face on them, right? Well, I *knew* I wasn't enjoying the ride when it was happening, but the expression on my face in that picture was one of pure terror. :hairs:

See, now I can do log flumes. I really enjoyed the Song of the South one at WDW and (I think) Jurrasic Park one at Orlando's Universal Studios.

But, I have no idea if the one you rode is more terrifying than those, ali...

Nah, it was a little ride at the amusement park inside Mall of America. I agreed to go because I usually like log flume rides -- and, IIRC, because Magickmaker was dying to go but Batty refused to go with her, and Magickmaker had to go with *some*body. (Clearly this was several years ago...) I just seriously was not in the mood that day, I guess.

Ohio IS the roller coaster capital of North America!
Been to Cedar Point a few times and still cannot get enough of the coasters! Millinium Force is great.
Haven't been back yet to ride the Dragster coaster. (Is the name Top Fuel?)

Busch Gardens in Tampa has some really good coasters also. (Wooden and steel.) Montu, Shiekra, Gemini, Scorpion, ...just to name a few.
Have you hugged your arghule today?
