hmm...

I picked one in each decade, yet voted once.
It seemed to register all of them.

If the criteria of the best movie of all time means it has to have at least won a best pic oscar, then we will get no where.

North by Northwest.
Cowboy: Why you doin' this, Doc?
Doc Holliday: Because Wyatt Earp is my friend.
Cowboy: Friend? Hell, I got lots of friends.
Doc Holliday: ... I don't.

I don't think it's insinuating that it's the best movie of all time; just within this category.

Neither was The Legend of Billy Jack, but then, it wasn't nominated for any Academy Award (that I know of), least of all Best Picture...

"Best picture ever" means "best picture of all time", in my book. No biggie, just that I would have voted for NBNW if it was on the list.

No, the thread states "best Best Picture ever", which means the best picture within the category of the Academy Award's "Best Picture" category. Even the website states this. Seven Samurai isn't on the list, and the number of voters in this poll is exceedingly low, so I don't take it seriously.

Yep, that's how I saw it too.

But if we're mentioning films that were unfairly overlooked...then, oh my, don't get me started on how I feel about 2001: A Space Odyssey being snubbed in favor of the musical Oliver! in 1969.

Ahhh, the age-old debate about the worth of Oscar.

No The Great Escape, which would be my pick. Within the framework of this list though, it was a tossup between Rocky and Braveheart, with the Gibson epic taking the prize.

Ha! Pardon, you are right LF; I messed up not reading that second best. Prob the only one who it took 6 times reading to see it. ;)

Gladiator is leading in the recent movies? Come on. Makes me want to throw a phone at someone. 8)

Man, there are so many of these I've never seen.

How the hell The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King got on the list amazes me.

You disagree with it having won "Best Picture" in the year it was released?

I always thought that nearly all of the 80s best pictures were incredibly overrated except for one, Amadeus.

My picks for best movies of the past 7 decades...

40s - The Maltese Falcon
50s - Vertigo
60s - *Edit* Changed my mind - going with 2001: A space Odyssey
70s - Star Wars
80s - Amadeaus
90s - To me, it's a tie between Fargo and LA Confidential
00s - Children of Men

I so agree. Amadeaus is a masterpiece, and F. Murray delivered one of the finest performances on screen ever in that one... :2c:
