Can't spell but.....anyway.

What about the CG idea? I know there are so many 'cartoons' already, and once it's in that form it's not likely it would be redone in cinema form....so there is that to consider. It is a sloppy seconds kinda idea.

But this story belongs as a movie. It has all the ingredients of an epic tale that transfers well to cinema. Great characters, amazing scenery, moral questions and solutions, violence, betrayal, beauty.
Perfect for Speilberg, Jackson, Eastwood, etc.
It would have to be a many episoded series tho.....expensive.
Sad that the project was scrapped.

Indeed it does. And that's why I'd be so wary to cast an actor like, e.g., Nicholas Cage in the role, who just plays, erm, Nicholas Cage in every damned role of his. And there are quite a few of those in the well-paid star circles. Whereas an actor like, say, Daniel Day-Lewis plays characters, and that makes him and his kind a good choice for Covenant.

I wish they were still working on a movie version! I think perhaps a series would give more room for the storytelling though would be harder to finance perhaps...

I like some of the suggestions people have for the role of TC but one actor came immediately to mind. Paul Blackthorne (the Dresden Files) would be brilliant in my opinion.

Ed Norton, picture him from History X and Hulk. Plus he can pull off parts where you know what he's thinking with out him saying it. Alec Baldwin would also be good.

If you want a true sarcastic jerk for TC, Dennis Miller or Dennis Leary.

One of my favorites that would do the character justice would be

John Malkovich but he may be to old.

Like the Blackthorne idea also.

HBO or Showtime series would be cool, a series with a movie budget. Could get some decent actors also.

Liam would also be good. It he did well in Darkman

Wife and I watched 1408 with John Cusack he spends alot of time by himself dealing with the area around him.

I could see him pulling this off.

Trying to characterize TC's inner turmoil to himself is going to be difficult. So much of it is him locked in his own personal hell with his own thoughts tormenting him and even betraying him.

Whoever plays him needs to be a bit of a crackpot themselves and be able to display it without words.

I don't think a movie could justify the detail and character development needed to do this right it would need to be a long movie and even then they would butcher much of the storyline.

If you want a bit of a crackpot for the part, try Jim Carey. And before I get beheaded for that, go watch Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

This guy could seriously do well if he would leave behind the goofball act.

Hugh Laurie without a doubt, with the scruffy look he has going on "House", certain aspects of the character he plays on House would give you a glimpse at how he could do. Even though at the time I read these novels I had no clue who Laurie was, I can easily say he fits the character to a tee in physical appearance. He already plays a cripple on the show, he can do a leper. And self loathing would be easy.

Nicholas Cage would work, because he possess the following qualities: 1) He has that permanent, "sad & lonely" look on his face, 2)He's the right age, and phyiscal build 3) He has the acting skill to pull it off. A 30 year-old Clint Eastwood would be my "real" first choice, but.........Sean Penn would just go to town with the character of TC, of course, but I just don't "see" Mr.Penns face in my imagination as I visualize a movie cast.

I must agree with others suggestions...John Cusack could do it well, and Jim Carrey IF he leaves the goofball at home. He is capable of doing a serious role (Doing Time on Maple St).....ahh, desicions, desicions....lol........DAMN shame it's all just hypothetical at this point....*sigh*

We just watched "Misery," and I couldn't help but think that the main character (Dean Cain, I think his name was) would have been perfect for TC.

Of course, that was 20 years ago; by now he doesn't fit the part anymore (though he could still play Prothall).

"Beowolf" the movie was astonishingly well-done as a 100% CGI movie. All things considered, that just might be the ONLY way it could really be pulled off, although, my first choice would still be live actors (as much as possible)

I'm sure I'll be hit by rotten tomatoes for suggesting this, but I'd like to see cartoon characters do the TC movie something like the attempt that was made of the 80's version of LOTR. Real actors merged into paintings
with Roger Dean and friends.
