Taken

Post by Rigel »

Great flick - definitely was a good see :)

Liam Neeson is one scary guy - you do NOT want to be on the receiving end of his anger! This is a dude who will walk into a building full of criminals, walk straight up to their boss, and give him the finger - then leave the whole place in rubble!

Girls, a word of advice: If your father is an international spy, and he tells you certain things aren't safe, then LISTEN to him! That way, he won't have to fly halfway around the world to kick some pimp's ass and save yours!

I enjoyed it a lot and Liam Neeson is far more convincing than most that he can really kick some seriuous butt; it might be that uncompromising win at any cost, intensity that many from Northern Ireland seem to have.

I saw this on DVD a bit ago, and I liked it. But that leads me into how.

Taken is a fantasy set in the real world. From the point of Neeson's arrival in Paris, the results that he achieves are less than realistic. Knowing this didn't limit my enjoyment, since it's fun to see one man run rough-shod over all the low-lifes involved in human trafficking. Still, to me the script comes off as a wish from the writer.

Neeson carries off the role well, and it is his movie. If there's one thing believable in the movie, it's his performance. Don't get me wrong, he doesn't show off much acting chops; it's not that kind of movie, and he's too busy. The actors around him do all the emoting (his ex-wife, daughter, the thugs he manhandles  ), yet he still comes off as a father trying to rescue his daughter.

Definitely worth the rental.

Just watched it for the second time, and I couldn't help comparing this with the Bourne series.

In Bourne, you have Matt Damon fighting others from his team, essentially his peers.

In Taken, you have Liam Neeson just walking all over everybody.

By the end of the movie, I was kind of feeling sorry for the thugs who got in his way. The poor guys didn't stand a chance against him :(

It is a truly enjoyable movie. My daughter and I loved it.

Just rented this recently myself and enjoyed it a lot. It had some very one-dimensional undeveloped characters (both good and bad) but that was certainly not the objective of the movie IMO. The plot moved along at a good pace without relying on the borderline ADHD film style that has become so popular. Good, reasonably realistic, no-nonsense fighting (the opposite of which is a pet peeve of mine) on Liam's character's part. Definitely worth a rental if you are in the mood for interesting action.

I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this film. I've always enjoyed Neesom's work (well, Next of Kin doesn't count. ;))

Pretty brainless action film. The Bourne series is much better.

Decent but not great...or even really really good. Again, it was one of those movies that I enjoyed watching but that I won't remember in another year. I thought "Man on Fire" was a much better movie based upon a similar premise.
War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things. The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. Next of Kin is an unappreciated masterpiece.

Taken is certainly not a great film, but it's one of those movies that I'll sit and watch every time once it starts making its rounds on Saturday afternoon TV.

Agreed. This is what I was getting at too.

Watched it again last night. It's far-fetched poppycock, but it's so convincingly played that I can still say I enjoyed it and I'd watch it again.

It's the cover art for David Lee Roth's 1986 masterpiece Eat 'Em And Smile.

I bought Taken because I like Neeson and heard good things about his performance. Haven't watched it yet, but I'm glad to hear yet more good things about his performance.

I liked him in Next of Kin, too. He had his own private version of the Appalachian accent, but he made it sound good, I thought.

I watched the two versions of Man on Fire back to back, a couple of years ago. I much preferred the early version. The recent one, Denzel Washington's version, was too caught up in admiration of its own artiness. Not appropriate for that kind of film, imo.

Good little film, really enjoyed it. Neeson was very convincing, way more than i expected him to be.
But if you're all about the destination, then take a fucking flight.
We're going nowhere slowly, but we're seeing all the sights.
And we're definitely going to hell, but we'll have all the best stories to tell.

Full of the heavens and time.
