Thanks, everyone. I'll keep you posted as soon as I am able to be back on the computer.

Good luck with the surgery, MsMary! (I was starting to wonder where you'd gone...)

I had to take a vacation day today because my car wouldn't start this morning. I had it towed to the mechanic's where it started on the first try.
They think that the anti-theft sensor was malfunctioning, and when the tow truck driver left the car key turned on for the drive there the system reset itself. The mechanic ran a diagnostic and found no problems. He said it could be the ignition, but counseled me not to replace it unless I had more problems because it would cost $475.
Anyhow, I wasn't charged anything for the service, and my insurance covers the towing. The time off is the only cost.
On a happier note. . . I have a date tomorrow night, and I am kinda excited about it. Wish me luck!

Good luck with the car, too.

Let me clarify on my situation: my husband got laid off a month ago, and I haven't been working since 2006. My husband sends at least one application a day to prospective employers. He's getting no call-backs. I am currently in school and stay home with my son during the day. I've been sending in applications to places I think can support us for the time being, but I'm getting no call-backs either.
We can't afford day-care. We have no money in savings, and no family can take us in here if we do get evicted. We are on unemployment, but we haven't seen a single paycheck and our severance and health insurance just ran out. Our only contingency plan is to move back to Louisiana with my mom, but that would mean I would have to give up school and move my family 1600 miles away.
So if a miracle doesn't happen soon, we're screwed. Did I also mention I fractured my toe, which means I can't work ASAP??
Bottom line: I'm freaking out.
If you hear about a bank robbery in NH, look for my mug on the nightly news.

You're still gorgeous, if that's any consolation. Hope things turn around soon for you and your family.JazFusion wrote:Oh yeah, and my poetry I submitted to a magazine was declined.

Sorry about your situation Jaz (bet you could and he could find a job in New Mexico, we're so poor we're now one of the more solvent states)-if the current advice I've heard helps-they're saying that just sending out applicatons and resumes isn't enough. You need to get out there and network and have face to face interviews.

Yep, when I was looking for a job last year I sent out about 200 resumes and did not get a single interview.
Keep an eye out for job fairs; they are a good way to talk to large numbers of people who are actually hiring.

I've been really busy leading up to the surgery.aliantha wrote:Good luck with the surgery, MsMary! (I was starting to wonder where you'd gone...)
The surgery went well. Today the doctor showed me pictures of the inside of my knee and gave me some simple exercises to start on.
I am not on the computer too much yet, but I took some time this afternoon to check email and stuff.

Thanks guys. I'm full of suck lately, but I'm usually pretty upbeat.
I will commiserate with you. My red hair is now a faded brownish-red and I have no monies to dye it again.Seareach wrote: And...well...I'm just whinging but I dyed my hair and it's SUPPOSED to look brown and it's BLACK!!!!! If only I wanted to be a goth I might be happy!

Hey Jazfusion! That's AWFUL! I was gonna post a comment about how bad my hangover's gonna be, when it kicks in any minute, but that doesn't seem to be particularly important any more. *big hugs and positive waves* Dye that hair back, things will get better with red hair!

Well, I've just turned in a fraction of my incomplete work from last semester. It was all due today. I'm glad to not have it hanging over my head any more, but I'm kind of upset that I didn't get it all done.
I have a migraine today. I freaking hate it when I have bad days.
And, as indicated by one of my girls running up and down the hall screaming excitedly, it's snowing. So far it's just a light dusting, hardly even covering the ground, but it's the most snow we've had this winter so they're excited. I'm happy for them, but I wish they'd move their excitement elsewhere...
I live in my own little world...but its okay, they know me here!
