The Beauty of Sorrow (Poem)
THE BEAUTY OF SORROW
Come to the land where the green willows weep
The River of Tears splashes a mournful song
Sandy paths of promises never to keep
Rocky outcrops of good intentions gone wrong
This land of my birth, this land of my death
I find myself here no matter which way I go
So I give up my flight, take one longing breath
And settle myself to watch the river flow
Around me come lonely ghosts from my past
Tatters of memory, snippets of another day
An ephemeral show of all that does not last
Emotions relived in a poignant display
Here I live in this strange land called Sorrow
Where memories breathe for a moment’s regret
A place of loneliness and never a tomorrow
A place of no escape that will never forget

Nice.
I especially like the first stanza's personifications, if that's the right word for what you did. As with many, LOTR is strong in my mind at the moment, and The Beauty of Sorrow resonates with it. At least in my mind.

All lies and jest
Still a man hears what he wants to hear
And disregards the rest -Paul Simon

So glad you liked it, F&F. Most of my writing will probably resonate with a LOTR feel. I am a fantasy fanatic at heart, and that colors everything I write. I absolutely love to take odd things and combine them, such as taking the emotion sorrow and turning into an actual place. How fun is that??? Maybe I just have a little too much spare time on my hands

I don't get much out of poetry either, Hierachy. I never quite feeol like I understand what people are trying to say. However, as a lover of words, I can't help but try my hand at it!
F&F, your kids are adorable. I checked out the photo albums a little while ago. Mine are (finally) old enough now that I can sit and write while watching them (my youngest is 3 yrs) instead of juggling diapers, bottles, blankets, burp rags, etc, etc. I'm a happy girl!
