Yeah, Rourke was amazing. I always thought, too, that it was kind of redundant to have the Best Director category 'cause 90% of the time it goes to the director of the Best Picture.

I'm happy for Kate Winslet. I've liked her ever since I first saw her in Sense & Sensibility.
Yes Im a good guesser :D I like Kate too. Something genuinely graceful and feminine about her. It was nice to see her win.

It helps bring a sense of closure, whether it's for a big name or a person who toiled in the shadows. I think that's when the ceremony is at its most emotionally genuine.
Yes, exactly. That part leaves me with tears. I choked a little when I saw Jerry Lewis accept his honorary award .... Ive been a big fan since I was a young girl. Ive always had a spot for funny men. I saw him live once and behind the funny act is a very intelligent astute person. I know hes not everyones cup of tea, but I like the guy.

Its been like that for the last couple of years I think. Seems to be a developing trend. So much pre oscar hype these days, it kills off the excitement to a degree and the suspense.

Another developing trend in my opinion.

I always thought it was a peculiar thing myself, whenever a movie would win for one but not the other. I'm not sure I understand how a movie can be divorced from its director.

Yeah, it would be like having a Hugo/Nubula Award for Best Writer separate from Best Novel.

I was about to start this post 'my faith in the oscars has been restored...' but that'd be a lie as I have never had any faith in them picking films I like.

But we've just been to see Slumdog Millionaire and I loved it. best film I have seen in years. Straight into my top ...3? 2? I'll think about it, it might even get to number 1. :D
