To get the grandeur of his world I think you would have to go CGI or cell animation. Feels sorry for the guy having to animate all the braid tugging.

So far, I haven't seen CGI animated world backgrounds that were close to the real thing, LOTR being the closest...

True, CGI has come a long way but it's still not as good as the real thing...
Maybe doing the film entirely in CGI might be a good option, since people and effects would sync up together at least
