Dawn of War II vs. Starcraft II
One is out, one will be...
...which do you think will rule the RTS galaxy once SC2 is released?

Dawn of War II should be the better game given that blizzard ripped off the ideas from the Warhammer 40k universe (Tyranids = Zergs, Imperial Space Marins = Terran Marines, Eldar = Protoss). However, gameplay wise, although it's too soon to say, I think DoW2 will be the better game.

I heard somewhere else that they got rid of the base building entirely...I mean, I like the whole squad concept, actually love it, but without the base-building, it's all the sudden a different sub-genre like World in Conflict (haven't played that either)...

They removed the base building, which I prefer. You have to select the squads you want in each mission, arm them and then that's all you have each mission - just like how it works in the Imperium. It's unlike World in Conflict.

The Imperium is the galactic empire defended by the Space Marines.jacob Raver, sinTempter wrote:Which Imperium...gamespot has many of 'em?Loremaster wrote:They removed the base building, which I prefer. I don't really care about ripping off the ideas behind the factions... after all, Red Alert has the ultimate rip-off in the form of the US versus the Russions, and noone cares about that.
What made Starcraft great were the story and the gameplay. If SC2 is anywhere near as good in those departments, then DoW will at least have a run for its money (though I couldn't say for sure, since I've never played it).

Give them a break, Starcraft was supposed to be a warhammer 40k game, but they pussed out and withdrew the license in the middle of development. I bet their kicking themselves in the head over that one, last I heard Starcraft was still the best selling PC game of all time. (WOW may have beaten it by now...)Loremaster wrote:Dawn of War II should be the better game given that blizzard ripped off the ideas from the Warhammer 40k universe (Tyranids = Zergs, Imperial Space Marins = Terran Marines, Eldar = Protoss). What makes SC so great is the perfectly balanced gameplay. The game is a multiplayer masterpiece. Comparing most other RTSes to starcraft is hard to do. None of them have the multiplayer community of SC. As far as I know, the only RTS thats ever some close to usurping SC as the king of multiplay is Myth. If you have never played SC online, you are missing out on what makes RTS a fun genre.

Yeah...between Sims 1/2 = 29 mil., then SC @ slightly behind WoW @ 11 mil.The Dreaming wrote:en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_games
I forgot about the Sims....
But after wow, SC is number 3. You seem to forget about Korea. I think something like 2/3 of all existing copies of SC were sold in south Korea.
I was just sayin' that 11 mil. isn't remotely close to 18 mil...I've seen these numbers before...
On another note, do you think Relic has truly created a new sub-genre of RTS, with CoH and DoW2? I would call it RTT (Real Time Tactics).
Edit: Also, do you guys think Blizzard will eventually take Warcraft in the direction they initially intended with WC3 now that Relic has done it with DoW2?
