The films are decent, don't get me wrong...I just can't remember which is which...they kindof just blend together...and maybe that's a good thing...

I haven't read any of them...I read the first two chapters of the first book...and I can understand why people love these books, the writing is really good with a unique feel to it- it has personality...but the lack of tension and direction makes for an ungripping story, IMO...

I liked the films. But none of them are better than say a 7/10, and only one would get better than **1/2 out of **** for me...

I haven't read any of them...I read the first two chapters of the first book...and I can understand why people love these books, the writing is really good with a unique feel to it- it has personality...but the lack of tension and direction makes for an ungripping story, IMO...

I admit I read the first book chapter by chapter, out loud, to my then kindergarten aged son as a bedtime story. I was perfectly aware I was reading YA. But you read only the first two chapters of the first book? You haven't even really met Hagrid yet! And things do gain direction and tension, at least in my opinion, once Harry, Ron, Hermione, and the other first years reach Hogwarts...

Jo Rowling wrote each book to appeal to readers the age her protagonists were. So book one is aimed at 11 year olds. The fact that so many adults have been entranced with it as well speaks volumes, even if it isn't deep prose. I would ask you try again, keeping in mind the intended audience and understanding that audience matures with each book.

Trust me, that is pretty much the general impression regarding the films in the JKR sub-forum, which, if you haven't noticed, I mod. But, we love discussing them anyway. Especially the change in scenery and mood in Prisoner of Azkaban. Alfonso Cuarón took a dark book, and made it even darker. For some fans of the series, it was too dark. But while I disagreed with some of his decisions, I loved the dark feeling to the film. It's my favorite of those released so far, even with the changes I didn't care for.
