I didnt realize there was a way to access firmware of a DVD Player using a text file burned to a cd... it might be simpler for you to just rerip the dvds using region 8 or leaving out the region coding alltogether so it just plays on any dvd player, simple procedure and no command lines. its taking the long way around i suppose but its easier than learning code. I have used the console on a couple occasions but the warning i was given while using these codes made me not want to use it unless it was absolutely necessary.
It is fairly common now for players to be upgradeable from a CD that has an upgrade file on it. Heck, I once hosed my upscaling DVD player but was able to download and make a CD with an ISO file that would reset my player to the factory defaults from where I could put my settings in, including setting up the region free parameter.
