I dont buy the recent trade rumors that have Braylon Edwards being shipped to the Giants. The Browns are near depleted at the WR position, thanks to Stallworth, and if Edwards is good enough for the Giants to give up a receiver , and two draft picks, then that should be enough to convince us to keep him.

Despite all the rumors NT Shaun Rogers has reported to voluntary workouts in Berea. Reports have the rift between him and Mangini closing swiftly.

The Browns are one of those teams I would love to see become elite...'s too bad the pieces keep underplaying...

Ive been watching this team since early childhood, and I can say with total confidence that the pieces have never been the problem. The problems have always started either at or close to the top of the organization. Romeo Crennel was simply the latest in a succession of inept coaches. For those of you that dont believe Mangini to be a step up, Ill bet he knows how to tell time. Ill bet he understands that when you call a time out, you cant just turn around and call time out again before the next play is run, Id even be willing to wager that he wouldnt leave Derek Anderson in the game to throw his fifth pick, with Brady Quinn fresh on the sideline. Win that game, and make the playoffs. I dont want to hear any arguments about why he didnt pull Favre at the end of last season either. Not only do you not pull Favre, you dont pull him to install Clemmens.

A well orchestrated publicity stunt. I dont believe its supposed to be helpful at all. Mangini doesnt want people thinking that there is bad blood between him, and Favre ( the most beloved player in the history of the game ). I cant really say that I blame him, but like you I cant see any real purpose that it serves.

Favre cant play for the Browns , he's still under contract to the Jet's. If he plays for anyone it will be them, but he wont he's done.

Well if you can believe anything that the sports media says then for all intents and purposes the Edwards to the Giants deal is dead, and I for one am thankful. I didnt want to see him go in the first place, and not just because I purchased an eighty dollar jersey that states that Edwards plays for the Browns. The guy is money. Now I know people say he has bad hands, he drops too many balls, and he's a diva. So to support my stance I did a little math, and crunched some stats. Edwards dropped the most passes of any receiver in the league last year right? Yes that is correct, when averaged that comes out to about 1 drop a game. In 2007 the only receiver to catch more touchdown strikes than Edwards, was Randy Moss. He holds the record for most touchdown receptions by any receiver in the Big Ten, ever! Now lets forget the drops, and talk about all the catches he managed to make , that should have been impossible.
The bottom line is that he is too valuable to let get away, which is an opinion that I for one am glad that the Giants dont share. If anything Big Blue shot themselves in the foot on this trade by proclaiming that Braylon wasnt worth a first and a third round draft pick. Great way to get a player to want to play for you, by telling everyone that he is not worth it. All they were willing to give was a third, and a fifth.

"Mangenius" is an understatement. 2009 has been the best draft for the Browns since their return to the league. There are those that could argue that we passed on some pretty big names, but I believe trading out of the number 5 spot was the best option possible , then trading down again, and again, finally selecting C Mack in the first round ( very affordable ).
All in all, under Romeo the Browns had a handful of talent, and no depth. Now we have the same handful of talent minus K2, and the depth to play a full season competitively. Dont forget we started 5 different QB's last year, depth means everything.

Cleveland Browns
Picks: C Alex Mack, WR Brian Robiskie, WR Mohamed Massaquoi, DE David Veikune, LB Kaluka Maiava, CB Don Carey, CB Coye Francies, RB James Davis.
Positives: Got out of the No. 5 spot, depth at wide receiver.
Negative: No great athletes.
Bottom line: C+.

New Browns coach Eric Mangini has this penchant for getting guys who are in his image: quiet, hard-working and industrious. But there’s a point at which you need to get great athletes and this draft just doesn’t have it. Mack was the best center in the draft, but they went after him a little high after making three trades down from the No. 5 spot. Also, the fact they got so little for the No. 5 pick isn’t good, but this is the direction the NFL is going because of the cost of signing top draft picks. All of that said, Mack is a good player and Robiskie and Massaquoi are really good value players as complementary receivers. Assuming the Browns keep top wide receiver Braylon Edwards, this could be a good group. That’s a big assumption.

I thought the deal for no.5 was inspired. A first, and second rd. pick, Abram Elam Safety (Back up for the Jets but a starter for the Browns), Kenyon Coleman Line Backer (same story), and Brett Ratcliff Quarter Back ( saw some of him in pre season last year, he's better than Ken Dorsey). The Browns had tried to sign Elam off the waiver wire earlier in the off season, but the Jets blocked it, the trade landed him anyway. Now under other circumstances this trade would have driven me crazy, but these are all players that have played for Mangini before, there was no guessing involved he knew exactly what he was trading for. For me the cherry on top of the whole deal was that we didnt have the money to pay the no.5 pick , not without ending up in the same boat as the Lions. They paid all that money to Stafford and it will set them back for the next couple of years.
