No, HLT, and if we can refrain from comments about "panties", that would be good. I also apologize - I think my tone was a little (unnecessarily) strong.

It just means that you don't understand what you are laughing at. What is important and sacred, and what is not. The 'bear' one does not touch on the sacred. The nature of Christ and meaning of the Incarnation/Resurrection do. It would be like your father or mother (or other important loved one) sacrificing their life for you in some tragic accident, Titanic or whatever, and then me drawing a cartoon of the events laughing at them. Hopefully that gets across the effect.

I'm offended by the implication that my atheism makes me deserving of a gruesome death. Conversely, I have no problem with the Christ/Spiderman thing, because it's not sacred. It's just two names (images, whatever).

Funny how sanctity and offensiveness aren't absolute, eh? Hmm, it's astonishing no-one figures that out in adolesence.

I agree. You are right to be offended at that implication, which I never made, and neither do the oldest forms of Christianity (including Orthodoxy and Catholicism, for example).

The funniest parts of said cartoon have been overlooked... the sky blue eyes and dandelion yellow hair have their own meaning... and Spidey saying , good morning,Sunshine means even more. Sacred is indeed in the mind of the beholder.

When I was a pre-teen, oh about 12 or so, someone called our house and I answered. The voice said:

"Do you have Jesus in your home?"

To which I immediately replied:

"Well, yes. But He's out back walking on the pool, can I have Him call you back later?"

The person hung up. :(

What most people dont know is that Mary and Joseph were having some marital problems that needed to be worked out before Jesus was born. The reason I know that is because in all the nativity stories Mary rides Joseph's ass all the way to Bethlehem. :lol:
