"Ah, you are correct, Led, I am not fairing well from that journey," answers Beauregard, beads of sweat pebbling his forehead and cheeks. "However, your plan is sound and I will do my best to do what I can."
The halfling exerts himself to stand erect, takes a dep breath and awaits ...

Remebering the previous night on the hill, and Laurel's magically healing touch, Led jogs out to where Laurel is searching for a hiding place.

"Laurel, since you'll be physically away from the fight and out of reach, would you mind healing Beauregard now? Now that I look at him closer, he looks more than just fatigued. We might as well benefit from the magic now, while it's available to us. Otherwise, you'll be out of reach."

Glancing at Marrik, Led asks, "And can we three divide up the healing potions? We'll be inside the gates and away from your magic as well."[/i]

Marrik says, "Aye, my thoughts ran along the same lines. Beauregard, here, take this one. It is for curing of light wounds. Skyseeker, here is another such. Led, you seem as lightly armored as they, yet your durability is clearly great. You, then, should have this one, a stronger curative."

Beauregard takes the vail with a smile and bows. "'A gift given is a hand extended'. Or so we little folk say. We love gifts almost as much as we love a good meal. I will treat this a both!"

And so he drinks said potion...

Laurel glances at the scout with an uncertain gleam in her eye.
"I-I don't know, Led.
This ability is new to me, and after using it just once last night, it was as if it was never there, until I awoke this morning. What if it happens again, and we need it more later?"

Turning to look at Beauregard, she asks, "Tell me true, Beauregard. Can you fight as you are at full ability? Even as fatigued as you are? I am willing to try to strengthen you, but again, I fear we may all regret me doing so later..."

Also looking at Marrik, she asks, "Led mentions your magic. Will it be available after the battle, if needed beyond the potions ability to heal?"

Turning to look at Beauregard, she asks, "Tell me true, Beauregard. Can you fight as you are at full ability? Even as fatigued as you are? I am willing to try to strengthen you, but again, I fear we may all regret me doing so later..."
Alittle shrug precedes his reply, "There are a few fantastic warriors of our race, but I am not one of them. In truth, lady of song, I do not fight well at all, and only when absolutely necessary. I am further handicapped by poor health which makes almost all tasks of exersion rather taxing."
And so he drinks said potion...

Turning back quickly, the bard gasps: "That was for when you were too far for me or Marrik to reach you quickly!!"
With eyes wide in surprise and chagrin, he tentatively gulps down the last swallow. Looking back to to Marrik and then to Laurel and then to the empty vial, then replies, "My apologies. I was a little parched, weary and curious, for I have never tastes one before."
He lets out a little burp, then adds with a smile, "It is very invigorating! However I will know better for next time. Thank you."

"Worry not, friend halfling. Our job is to keep you safe, while you perform the delicate tasks only you can do. If all goes according to plan, you shouldn't need to fight today. Just enable the prisoners to fight, and you'll save them all."

Unable to keep a small grin off her face, Laurel shakes her head slowly at the antics of the halfling. "Friend Beauregard, 'tis a joyous approach you have towards "gifts." I only pray Cerana's luck is with you, to do as Led suggests safely."

Beauregard returns from his scouting. His light step across the high grasses is effortless and quiet. Once before the group, beads of sweat can be seen upon his forehead, but he looks well (relatively speaking) ;)
He reports:
" Well there is only one orc standing guard under the shade of a tree. There are others in the other buildings: 4 orcs in one, 4 kobolds in another, and a leader-type in one of the smaller <red> structures. I am assuming they are sleeping during the daylight hours. The place could easily hold 70 or more, but we are lucky there are few.
“If I may remark and suggest.
asks Beauregard, "I can do my best to sneak up and, um -- 'take-out', as humans say, the lone orc guard, then do my best to quietly release the prisoners. If I make too much noise, or things do not go quietly, we will need aid quickly, whether from afar, magical or mundane, or rushing up.
“Any suggestions?”

Led draws a rough map of the camp on the dirt in front of them all.

/ooc - See map posted in that thread.

"Masterfully done, good Beauregard. The key to this will be keeping quiet. If all but the guard are asleep, we can all go into the camp and be ready for the rest. I think that since you and Skyseeker can both attack from a distance, you should make your way to the prison pens from the southeast, so he can't see you. Then, using the pens as cover, move close enough to him so that you can both hit him. Hopefully that will be enough to kill him before he can give the alarm. Be sure to tell the prisoners to be quiet during all of this, or all is lost."

"Once he's dead, the rest of us can make our way into the camp. I'll go into the kobold's house and... erm... silence them, while the rest of you do the same with the four orcs in that building."

"At that point, any noise that's made will alert the cheif orc in his own building, so we'll have to make our kills before he can run the distance to the building. If we're very lucky, he'll run past the kobold building to where you are, and I can move in behind him."

"I think with a little luck on our side, we can do this cleanly. Just make sure the prisoners don't give us away."

Marrik grins ruefully...."I am of little help in such an endeavor....While my armor serves me well in the crush of battle, I would be a liability for this. I will simply place myself so that any who seek to reach our long-ranged members must try and pass me....which they shall not."

Most of this flew past young Laurel's head. As long as she was counted on to target any foe who came within her range, and her singing would not be detrimental to the plan once any started heading her way, she was confident she could hold her own. Anymore expectations than that, and she feared she would let the party down...

"Once the orcs start running out of their buildings, we'll have lost surprise anyway, so go ahead and sing as soon as you can see anyone. And shoot them dead."

"Then, if everybody is ready, let's get started. We'll need to clean up the bodies before their friends arrive, so time is of the essence."

Vynarkus nods, and says, "I will look for a concealed place where I can cover the entire fighting area. And I will try to help take out the guard if Beau and Sky can't do so at once."

Beauregard strikes first, having crept to within 20' before teh light-shy orc on guard even has the merest hint of trouble...his head has barely started to turn when *theed* a dart from the halfling sinks cleanly into his eye.....6 points the orc drops with only slightly more sound than the breeze rustling the grasses.

The prisoners inhale sharply in surprise...but quickly silence themselves...one poor woman nearly screamed regardless, but someone slapped their hand over her mouth. As your intentions are explained, they volunteer that within the large building (ooc--Big Blue) is where they store all manner of things...weapons, gold, and more.

Marrik is clearly uncomfortable being t such a distance, yet accepts his role and waits.

ooc--PM to settle events in Kobold Hut with Led, will pick up shortly

Led climbed in through a window on the southern facing of the kobold's building, with the barest of whispers indicating his passage.

There are a few moments of silence....

From within the Kobold's Hut, a sudden high shrill scream of terror wails.

/ooc--there is one more round of Led vs kobolds inside, then orcs will be coming out. So, one round to change positions if anyone wants too.

Laurel and Vynarkus--your positions let you receive some partial cover benefits AND maintain a field of fire over the entire center of camp, per your requests.

Iniative numbers--

22--Beauregard

18--Marrik

17--Led

16--Skyseeker

14 Orc Leader

11 Vynarkus

10 Laurel

8--regular orcs

4--kobolds

the shrill screem of the kobolds cuts through the halfling causing him to wince. He almost regrets the nasty business Led is undertaking, instead of just trying to sneak the prisoners out and away. But the humans recognize the danger the orc and kobold raiders will represent to their roads...

Beauregard is on the move! As he makes for the pen's gate, he points at his distant companions, gestures at his eyes, then waves his hand towards the other buildings, then moves to the pen to free the prisoners and take them to safety.

<ooc> if anyone threatens Beauregard or the prisoners, he will do his best to act as defence... </ooc>

The halfling quickly opens the door, and the captives stagger out..a couple of them rush over to the fallen orc guard and take his sword, dagger and shield, and move to join in the fight...the rest back carefully away to the east.

Marrik steps up to the side of the door of the orc lair. As the first few rush through the opening, he seizes the opportunity, but fails to connect. However, he is swift to lash out again, and the orc squeals briefly as his sword pierces its tough hide, before slumping off his outthrust blade. ( 7 points)

Led comes out of the hut and charges after the kobolds who are trying to cast stones from their slings...both hands flash out...the claws he has sprouted carving furrows through the small monsters bodies, leaving them bloody ruined heaps on the ground.

Skyseekr slips between the impalement stakes, and on the move lets fly an axe...which makes a loud, harsh *ting* as it bounces harmlessly off of the breastplate worn by the orc's leader.

Vynarkus unleashes his blast upon one of the orcs pushing past Marrik, searing the startled beast (4 points)

Laurel, voice already lifted in song, and an arrow already nocked, quickly aims and lets fly, striking the orc already burned by Vynarkus. As the feathered shaft pierces its chest, it collapses against the wall. (5 points)

Beauregard will make sure the prisoners who are not fighting get to a safe spot (the look-out on the hill) and tells them to wait there! Then, with spear in hand, he will make his way tentatively to the big blue structure....

As Led shakes the kobold blood from his claws, he hears the TING of Skyseeker's axe bouncing off the huge orc in front of him. "This monster isn't like the other orcs we've fought this day, and I'll wager he won't go down as easily, either." mutters Led to himself. Then, he gives a Heshic battle cry (which sounds much more impressive with 30 mounted tribesmen at your back giving the same cry) and charges directly at the beast.

/ooc - Move Northeast two squares, putting me directly in front of the orc. Charge + skirmish + claw / claw. This is my fourth round of shift.
