Priceless moment in the last episode. Ben's expression when he wakes up to find Locke alive.
Hurley's Marty McFly impression was hysterical. Also enjoyed Miles trying to explain the situation, and Hurley confusing him.
IIRC, didn't Ben--as Henry Gale--tell Sayid he knew all about him? Or was it, "I know what you're capable of?"

I don't know, ItIs.
I was rather disappointed to have Ben forget everything. The plot would have been much more intriguing had it been revealed that he knew everyone all along, and that he had it in for Sayid. As Hurley almost suspected.
Would have liked to see Ben get resurrected. I think it's pretty lame that Sayid, professional assassin, could have botched shooting a boy at point blank range.

Well, we can't be sure how much Ben is forgetting. I'd have to watch the episode again, but, I wonder, if it's possible with what was said, that Ben will only forget the shooting itself, or maybe only forget the healing itself (though I think the entire shooting must be forgotten according to the words I remember). Ben does remember meeting Richard before the shooting, so it's not his entire memory that's blanked out, so he may remember Sayid being in jail.wayfriend wrote:I don't know, ItIs.

Just because Ben forgets being shot (if that's what happens) doesn't mean no one will tell him later. I think I'll wait to see how they define "forgetting" before I come to a conclusion.
As for Sayid botching the shot, he only shot him once. The professional doesn't worry about wasting bullets and makes sure (as he did on the golf course). Sayid didn't because he doesn't like being a killer of little boys. One was all he could bring himself to do.

I believe Sayid's shot was true, remember we are working with an island and a universe who are 'course correcting" Ben lived to be 40+ and arrange circumstances that send these people back in time, so, Sayid couldn't have succeeded in killing Little Ben, something somewhere had to save him to prevent a paradox. Plus, while Juliet isn't a practicing surgeon, she has performed surgery in the past, so she's not a complete amatuer and she couldn't save Ben by herself, so Sayid must've done as good a job as he could possibly do.ItisWritten wrote:Just because Ben forgets being shot (if that's what happens) doesn't mean no one will tell him later. I agree, we don't know the parameters of "forgetting", he obviously remembers at least some of his childhood prior to being shot.

But it's not just the shot, and all the variables of wind resistance and island influence.sindatur wrote:I believe Sayid's shot was true, remember we are working with an island and a universe who are 'course correcting" Ben lived to be 40+ and arrange circumstances that send these people back in time, so, Sayid couldn't have succeeded in killing Little Ben, something somewhere had to save him to prevent a paradox. Then again, we are talking about a non-paradoxical, time-fulfilling moment in which Sayid helps to create the Ben he wanted to kill.

Were those Egyptian hieroglyphics? I'm not an archaeologist, but it looked like it, which would put smoky's age at over 5000 years.
How old is Richard? It seems he's survived all these years by not challenging the Others' "leaders". At least not directly.
Which brings me to Lost wild theory #4332--we've seen the island bounce people around in time. What if Richard is one of those, and he hasn't aged because he's not in his time? Which would also imply he's from the future--post 2004.
Applying this logic to Kate, Jack, Hurly et al., they won't have aged either by the time they live past their 30 years on the island, provided, of course, they survive. We won't see them in the present (where Sun is waiting for Jin) until the writers reveal what they did in the past anyway.
Come to think of it, this scans with Malik's spoiler
If this is remotely true, it sure makes things easier for the make-up people. Jack's beard was bad enough.

I think the way he reacted after shooting Ben tells you a lot. A lot must have been going through his head, and I doubt he's so cold as to make sure the kid's dead. He shot him in the chest, alright, then let's go. Part of him didn't want the kid to die, maybe, and the other definitely felt his death would be better for himself and a lot of people.wayfriend wrote:I don't know, ItIs.

Yes, we have lots of Egyptian references in LOST. The counter in the swan station after it reached zero, had heiroglyphs referencing death or something, the 4 toed statue appeared to be either Anubis or the Goddess of Fertility Tewetek or something like that (And somewhere along the line conceiving and giving birth on the island becomes deadly (apparently after the statue is destroyed since it's still standing in 1977 and it appears conceiving and giving birth on the island is still safe). So, yea, Temple has Egyptian Glyphs as well, and a picture of Anubis, I believe.ItisWritten wrote:Were those Egyptian hieroglyphics? I'm not sure about Time travelling preventing aging. I'm thinking Richard is an Egyptian, and somehow that's why he isn't aging.

This quote from the blogger at Dark UFO was something I hadn't noticed or thought of:
The Shadow Statue People and the Mystery of the Silver Trunk
Not sure what to make of these clowns, but it's a good bet they're Widmore's crew. It's unlikely Charles Widmore would've let Ajira fly off into the night without some kind of plan to get himself back to the island. And judging by their rifle-happy ways, it's a safe bet they're the ones who shot at Juliet and Sawyer in the canoe.
The possibility also exists that these people represent some sort of ominous third party in the dreaded "war" that's coming. Their cute little secret passphrase and the way they dressed the silver chest up to carry it around like the Lost Ark of the Covenant seemed to speak of ancient agendas. It's a good thing Frank ditched creepy gloomville to end up back here, so we can see this story progress through his eyes. I was kind of wondering why the writers had him leave Sun in the middle of nowhere. Go Frank! He's gonna be the monkey wrench in their machinery.

I doubt Smoky is Anubis. In that center frieze it depicted two beings. One was Anubis. The other was a zig-zaggy cloud thing which I'm fairly certain was Smoky.
"It is not the literal past that rules us, save, possibly, in a biological sense. It is images of the past. Each new historical era mirrors itself in the picture and active mythology of its past or of a past borrowed from other cultures. It tests its sense of identity, of regress or new achievement against that past.”

The only zigzaggy thing I could find in the basic hieroglyphic alphabet sort of looks like 3 Ms strung together and, roughly, stands for N and means water...

***I know many of these things can be seen in my posts about the statue. I just decided to start a thread dealing with the broader subject matter.***
1. The fact that Richard looks Egyptian( guy "with the eyeliner")
2. The hieroglyphs the appeared when the count down ends at the Hatch
as seen here -- images4.wikia.nocookie.net/lostpedia/images/6/60/Hieroglyphs.JPG
3. The statue looks like Anubis you can clearly see his dog ears and he appears to be holding an ankh
hich can clearly be seen in this pic-- images2.wikia.nocookie.net/lostpedia/images/6/68/FourToedFull.jpg
4. The fact that Paul had an ankh
5. Where did Ben end up when he moved the island?- The Sahara!!!- which makes up a large portion of Egypt.
6. The hieroglyphs on the temple look like rudimentary versions of Egyptian glyphs
as seen here-- images1.wikia.nocookie.net/lostpedia/images/6/64/TempleHiero.jpg
What I believe happened was a bunch of early Egyptians must have some how got to an island located in the Mediterranean near Egypt. Possibly on a fishing excursion and became ship wrecked and they must have believed they were dead and in the after life( possibly one or more was dead prior to their arrival and came back to life once they arrived [Richard Alpert!!!!!] leading them to believe they were in the land of the dead ) Because they believed they were in the land of the Dead, they may have thought it appropriate to build temple and a large statue of the god Anubis who is associated with land of the dead, burial rights and the guardian of lost souls(depending on which period the Egyptians in question came from).

Ooh, I hadn't considered the desert area Ben and Locke landed in after turning the Donkey wheel might be Egypt. Matter of fact, I wondered why in the heck they would end up in the desert.danlo wrote:The only zigzaggy thing I could find in the basic hieroglyphic alphabet sort of looks like 3 Ms strung together and, roughly, stands for N and means water...

I'm not sold on the statue being ANubis, I think it's the Goddess of Maternity Taweret. Something happened that made it dangerous to conceive and give birth on the island. What better explanation than the destruction of her statue.
