Big Bang Theory
Xar turned Christy and me onto this show. Just a riot! Two guys share an apartment. Super-smart scientist types. The nerds of all nerds. Big comic book collectors; Star Trek and Star Wars geeks; know everything about physics, quantum, all that jazz; big WoW and Halo enthusiasts; etc. One of them is entirely lacking in all understanding of social issues, has OCD, yadda yadda. One of their friends (the only one with "only" a Master's degree) controls the Mars rover, and is constantly hitting on every woman he sees, and is very bad at it. The other friend can't speak when an attractive woman is present unless he's drunk.
And then the outrageously hot young woman moves across the hall.
Such things can be terribly cliched, but this is very well done!

Is it by Chuck Lorre? I find he tends to have stereotypes in his shows, but kinda makes them more interesting as the show goes on.
I watched an episode of it and found it a bit of an irritant, but I suspect if I put in the time, I'd enjoy it. I did hear of a rock paper scissors variation that sounded funny that came from that show. But I'm trying to watch as few tv shows as possible right now in my life as soon I won't be able to watch any.

Many, many laughs in the BBT, not going to help you live your life or get you thinking about anything important but it may well cheer you up

It's a great show... as a scientist and a nerd myself, I actually find it great that there is a show which shows nerds as kind of the "heroes" (however naive). Then again, it really depends on how much you're able to identify with the characters - and, if you consider yourself a nerd - how much you are able to laugh at yourself when you see yourself reflected in those jokes. It's also that as a postdoc myself (biology, not physics, but still) I can relate, directly or indirectly, to many of those situations (or i know people who can).
Incidentally, I introduced the series to a large number of friends, all of them scientists, and they all loved it... including a physics postdoc
The science speech tends to be relatively right as well - a bit simplified sometimes, but the stuff they talk about is true, at least the biological part...

Here's a great moment, showing some of the aspects of the show. Penny and Leonard are planning to attempt a romance, and Penny asked Sheldon what he thinks about it. (Who can imagine why anyone would ask Sheldon about such a thing, but...)

But this clip skips a scene between the two in the clip, when Leonard asks what Sheldon thinks.
Sheldon: "Schrodinger's Cat."
Leonard: "Brilliant!"

Sheldon is hysterical! He reminds me of Dan (Eric's son). I was at work one day and my boss was trying to describe someone. I wasn't quite understaning what she was describing until she said " Did you ever see the big bang theory?". And then I said well.... Who's he like. And then she said "He's like Sheldon", to which I replied "Ohhhhhhh" OK. I understand now........ Then the whole conversation made sense.

I love the episode where Leonard, Raj and Wallowitz go to the desert to record the Meteor Shower and they get special Brownies from one of the camping hippies. man the scene where they are starving with munchies and wallowitz finds the "I love you Brisquit" his mom packed for him. this show has never let me down so far for laughs. Sheldon is a great actor, i cant imagine memorizing his lines and the way he delivers them.... he should have won the emmy.
